I think that post somewhat proves my point about Luton being up in arms when Beano's on the bench. They clearly pay close attention to it. 'benchwarmer'... it's not like he's our bloody captain or anything, is it?

His wife and kids live in Scotland I believe. He stated this in an interview with the OM when the snow was kicking about... Could the 12th Man help with relocation costs as they did with Jake? I'd hope not, if he was on 7k a week I'd imagine he could stump up 4 or 5 months rent somewhere until the end of the season

Don't get me wrong, I think Maclean is an excellent player, but...
I thought that the club had been working quite hard to make the wages more level across the squad, as there was a silly range of pay from player to player at one time. Paying Maclean 7k (or anything close) a week would surely blow this out of the water, and would presumably spark requests for more money from other senior players in the sqad?
Much as I really hate to say it, if he can't fit into the existing wage structure, then he is probably too expensive for us. Of course this is all speculation - he may well be prepared to come to an upwardly mobile club that will actually pay his wages and accept less than he was on at Plymouth.

No player is bigger than the club.
He's certainly helped the turn round in form over the past few games, but if (big IF) he stays, and we sign him permanently it needs to be at a salary that is sustainable and doesn't start a big rise in wages for everyone else.
We need to invest for the future, but we don't want to go mad.

Good post Sihath. There are players out there who are as skilled as Maclean who will be available for less money and who are more hungry to make an impact.ub

Longlive clarkey, as much as we like Beano, lets not kid ourselves that his being here is down to loyalty ! Player Loyalty disappeared long ago with the limit on players wages when most earned an average wage and were happy to stay in one place. Todays footballer (and manager) will disappear like a puff of smoke as soon as the better offer comes in. The fans are the only link between football and loyalty.

No, I'm absolutely convinced there's such a thing as loyalty in football. I think we have 3 examples of it. Beano has regularly stated how is loyal here, and I believe him. Maybe I'm foolish, but crucially, he's easily had the option to move on since his first season here for a better deal. He's never once wanted to. Clarke just signed a 3 and a half year contract. If that's not loyalty, I don't know what is. He's the best goalkeeper in this division, the best shot stopper we've had in ages by a mile, he must have had interest from somewhere, or at least recognise he will. Nonetheless, he's basically guaranteed his future here for roughly another two years. Finally, we get to Wilder. Probably could have left after his first season with us, definitely could have left after his second season with us (remember that slide aat Wembley? I don't think that was him saying 'I've done a good job here!'), could have followed up on the Sheff Utd job, but didn't to our knowledge (I think we would probably know). I really do believe there's such thing as loyalty in football. I think we've experienced it a lot over the last few years, people like Turley keeping around for as long as he possibly could, but with all the shit we've had in the same time, we've forgotten to look at the good points.

I hope we don't have to pay £7k a week wages for maclean. He's good but we could get 3 players at this level for £7k a week.
