MacLean may be on £7k at Plymouth, but he's not actually being paid..... 0% of £7k is still nothing. Whereas he knows we're a club on the up (and he's settled). His agent will be talking all sorts of bonus incentives plus a nailed on pay check of £2.5k/£3k. No brainer IMHO

Why do people always panic, it is well known that the club will only comment on transfers etc. when everything is completed.
If we are being asked to contribute more towards his wages the deal will not be completed until it is really necessary, i.e. after the last game of the current agreement, otherwise we would have to start paying the higher amount immediately.

No brainer IMHO You need to take into account the distance between Oxford and Plymouth and the fact he has a wife and kid(s) in Plymouth. Will he want a loan for 4-5 months? With hotel stays twice a week chucked in?? Or will he be hold out for a 2/3 year contract with more money?

Great question....only MacLean knows what works for him. What's great, is that we're in there talking to him putting real offers on the table.

I am not in favour of paying high wages for players just because they are on a good deal at their present club. Look at the mess Plymouth are in because of his and other players over-inflated wages. You have to live within a budget. However, I think he is a good player and trust our management not to break the budget. Spot On! Would we have got him at all if Plymouth had not screwed up? If he goes then it will be for the right reasons. i.e. He is too good and we can't afford him. He also has to be aware that many other club's are in financial trouble and he could end up in the same boat again if he is not very careful. CW & KT have to get the right balance for the club. The player has to get the right balance for his family especially when he has not been paid for some time but I hope he takes a long term view. I hope they can all work something out and he stays here but if not then there must be good alternatives.

I believe his wife and child are in Plymouth which why he has only been spending 3 days a week in Oxford. Could the 12th Man help with relocation costs as they did with Jake?

Steve's wife/kids are based in Plymouth. Ah.. I stand corrected. Mildly more "local" than Scotland at least!

Be great to keep him, but have a feeling he may look for a move back to Scotland.

Well I see Luton think they have got Beano again, surely nothing in this can't see us letting him go or I hope we wouldn't even concider an offer from Luton.

Well I see Luton think they have got Beano again, surely nothing in this can't see us letting him go or I hope we wouldn't even concider an offer from Luton. Luton's fans are totally deluded. Having been higher league, they're used to the idea that they can snap up players because they're a league or two higher, no matter what the loyalty of the player is. There are three problems with their delusion in this case: 1) Beano had/has interest from higher league clubs. They would be quicker to close in, lure him more easily and lure us more easily. 2) Luton could never meet our valuation of him. They traded Craddock for a pretty decent sum already, and Beano due to his services to us will be valued at large amounts more than Craddock. They wouldn't be able to pay us back for Craddock, let alone another player. 3) Beano is loyal to us, and quite frankly that means that he would only consider going for a spectacular contract offer or a much higher club. On no planet would he drop down to the BSP again, particularly since proving Paul Simpson wrong. The moment Beano's on the bench, Luton seem to be raving about how they're signing him for sure. The truth of it probably is, they see he's on the bench and think 'oh he must be out of favour and wanting to leave!' which is total bollocks. They've just forgotten what having a rotatable squad feels like.

On the Luton outlaws site that Drury and Barnes-Homer are off to league clubs and there signing Beano as a direct replacement for MBH. Also Crow is going on loan to R&D so they definitely need a striker. Really hope it's not true even it we got Maclean as a replacement.
