bearing in mind how shite we normally perform in tournaments in June/July it could be a blessing in disguise playing it in January!! I honestly think the World Cup would be better if played in January. It is supposed to be the pinnacle of world football. But at the moment, all the top players turn up after a long, hard season at their clubs, are absolutely &*$ ed and play rubbish. Move it to January and everyone will be in mid-season form and we'll get a better spectacle. Clubs won't like it, but FIFA can tell them where to go* (*unless of course Oxford are in the Premiership by 2022, with a team full of internationals. In which case it's a bloody stupid idea and they should forget about it)

The FA aren't going to intervene after being snubbed by FIFA just so they can hold the World Cup in Qatar

Mh main worry is, if we can't win the right to host it now, with the best league, some of the best players, becks, prince williams, infrastructure, fans...u name it. If this aint our time, well...it never will be. We've more chance of winning the Eurovision! And there is absolutely no chance of that.......

Moving the 2022 WC to January may be a 'non-starter', but I would be surprised if it didn't happen.
It seems to me that FIFA had already decided where the 2022 WC was going a long time ago, and also that it would have to be moved to Januar due to the heat. What we're seeing now is just a play to make it look like a good decision.
Next up will probably be a reduction in the number of stadia required to be built, and finally a reduction in the minimum size of the stadia required.

Would FIFA go through with it if the big european leagues and clubs threatend to break away though? With the backing of sky and other major tv networks the premier league, la liga, serie A etc have some clout financially and Murdoch and his European counterparts would love a european superleague with every game live on tv and all the stars playing in it, this would be a chance to do that. Think Blatter will either be forced in to a humiliating climbdown if he trys to take on the big clubs or risk a split in the game which would probably see the end of international football and FIFA with it.

A FIFA source said: “We have always held our tournaments in the summer months before but we must think about what is best for the players.”They should have thought about that before voting for Qatar.

Our FA and the premier league won't agree to a Jan tournament with all the potential injuries upsetting the premier league surely.

I think the best way forward is for a Darts style (PDC) breakaway Federation forming as FIFA are clarly corrupt and rotten to the core. FIFA are an international organisation that are answerable to no-one, and make the rules up as they along. Their only interests are bribes, bribes and more bribes.
International football has lost it's pazzaz from years gone by.

I'm starting to agree with Boogaloo here.
The more they vote, and the more they talk, the more Blatter & FIFA look like corrupt, incompetent, thick fools. Who shouldn't have anything to do with international football - but who are currently doing their best to turn it into a complete joke.
I reckon Platini & UEFA - who let's be honest look like geniuses in comparison - should step in, say enough is enough and pull European teams out of FIFA-sanctioned competitions. Europe has all the football money (that wasn't in Qatar) so FIFA would quickly collapse without us. Then maybe something competent and honest could be set up in its place.

Do me a favour, Platini hates England more than anyone, he's very vocal on the money in the English game. In any case they're all cut from the same cloth and live in eachother's pockets. Very noble Tone but it's never gonna happen is it?

I usually get extremely fed up with all the whinging about everyone being anti-English etc etc, so I've been quite slow to come round to agreeing but this is beyond a joke. Its all very well to take the World cup to new places, but they should at least have some kind of football tradition to build on and a suitable climate. Japan/Korea and South Africa were fine, Russia despite the problems of security and corruption probably also fine, but Qatar is a joke.
Totally agree with Tony/Boogaloo, a breakaway would be a possibility and there is still plenty of time before 2022 for this to happen. Europe, Brazil and Argentina is all you need to take away to render the World Cup absolutely meaningless. Maybe threaten to merge the European Championships with the Copa America? At the end of the day all we need is the threat....

Platini doesn't hate England. If he hates the money in the English game, then he's in agreement with most English people. We won't get anywhere by childishly claiming that everyone is against us. Beckenbauer has already come out and criticised FIFA, a very influential figure in the game, we need to keep on the side of people like that.

Very noble Tone but it's never gonna happen is it? Agree with your second paragraph - no it isn't going to happen. But that's because, frankly, the people that matter don't care about international football any more. Top level European football is bigger, better & richer so that's where the money men and the players want to be. And to be honest, the majority of fans are probably club over country as well. Yes, Platini is very vocal on the money in the English game. I'm very vocal on the money in the English game. Doesn't mean I hate England! I'm actually glad we've got a president of UEFA who's tackling these issues - who's trying to introduce very fair and sensible rules so that clubs don't spend money they don't have. Better that he's arguing that way, rather than just taking backhanders like the majority of FIFA. The Champions League is the best, most professionally run football competition on the planet. That's UEFA's domain. Putting them in the same bracket as FIFA ain't fair. And although he's definitely an arrogant, sometimes pompous Frenchman, Platini >> Blatter.

As much as a PDC style breakaway would be a fun way of sticking it to tw*tter and his cronies, if money is the problem at the moment, with the nations willing to pay the biggest bribes getting the tournaments, would getting even further into bed with the likes of murdochm whose greed knows no boundsm in order to achieve that split make any difference in the long term?
