Emma and myself went there last night.... Firstly the food is Indian NOT Bangladeshi or PaKistani. The owner/manager is from Delhi and the chefs are from Bombay and Goa. The quality is amazing. It is not cheap. But what you are paying for a quality of the highest order. Starting with the perfect pappadoms and home made chutney's. Our chutneys/pickles were mango chutney, lime and aubergine and a delightful mint and yoghurt (which was laced with fresh spearmint). For starters Emma had a chicken Tikka and I had Sheekh Kebab. Both were excellent. Main course were out of this world. I had a Hyderabadi Handi Ghosht with Pilaf rice whilst Emma had a Jhangi Lamb chop with steamed rice. Desserts were delicious Kufli ice creams (home made). That plus two glasses of wine form her and a pint of Cobra for the and the cost was £54.00.
All in all an excellent evening shared with friendly helpful and informative staff.
I cannot reccomment it high enough.

Were there many others eating there John? I walked past it on Saturday before the game and it was empty. Can't see it competing with the Oxy for the lunchtime pre-match trade at those prices.

I went to Ruchi's at the weekend , it was excellent. Doesn't serve booze but does amazing mango lassi's. If you want chicken tikka massala then it's not for you but if you want to try Massala dosa, thali's etc then it's amazing and when the bill came to 16 quid for 2 then I was even happier. Glad the food at the Indian you went to was good as well John, I will give it a go soon.

We got there early ie 5.30pm and there were just the two of us. They do quite a considerable South Indian vegetarian section by the way.
Don't expect to see the usual Madras etc style dishes there. They do have a Tikka Massala on the menu. They also have a vindaloo. But not the firey hot vindaloo that people as used to. This is a Goan style vindaloo.
They are Hindu by the way so don't expect any beef on the menu. Also being Hindu the meat is not Halal.

Great to have all these choises to eat noe at the Ozone, but for me you won't beat the Oxy-for choice-value for money and all. And when you pay your bill you just flash your season ticket book and get a nice little discount. Up the Oxy! (keep it quiet though chaps,it's started to get busy on match days)

The Chef said that Dosa would be on the menu soon along with some "authentic" Southern Indian dishes. He is alo prepared to cook any dish required for a party of 4+.

The Spice Cafe reminds me of the first very dour curry houses of the 1960's. All curries comiong from one pot of gravy with just chilli powder etc added. It is so inconsistant. I have had a Madras that was hotter tyhan a Phal and a Vindaloo that was milder that a Dupiaza.
Also pappadoms that were soggy and tasted on stale oil.
Simply Spice is dearer but yuou are paying for quality.

Thanks John, I'll deffo bear that in mind. Shame I didn't know about that on Sat as I'd have gone there for my birthday meal instead of Chutneys.

Khan's in Bayswater does an amazing (and cheap) vegetable thali. No alcohol served though. Large place with wooden benches, people queue out of the door for it. At the other end of the scale, Chutney Mary's in Chelsea is phenomenal. Garam Masala creme brulee was something I've never seen since (although hardly authentic). If you're ever in Wycombe (god help you but I live there) Chutney's is top notch.

Looking forward to trying something a bit different. Would be nice to have a good hot meal and on to a victory against Aldershot. Tell you one thing. There are no good Indian restaurants in Aldershot

Not been to the Dancing Dragon for years, but it was rubbish when I did go there last. Not tried the one down the Castle, but went to EMAYL in Park End St once and that was good (although I was pissed so I've no idea what I was eating). Not sure why oxonian has such a downer on the Oxy. Okay, so it's not cordon bleu, but for what you pay it's more than adequate, and the rice beer they sell is lurvely.
