There are some on here who think we will storm this league and get back-to-back promotions. While I hope these people are right, truely I do, I find it difficult to understand the reasoning behind this. Judging on how other promoted teams have fared over the years, I expect us to finish about half way.

While I hope these people are right, truely I do, I find it difficult to understand the reasoning behind this. Judging on how other promoted teams have fared over the years, I expect us to finish about half way. In the last 4 seasons. Out if the 8 teams that were promoted out of the Conferance 1 went up in their first season. Exeter, who also won the play off final. Therefore if statistics are anything to go by we have a 12.5% of going straight up. As for a play off place. The statistics are much more favourable. I think this is were some of the optimism comes from. It may have nothing to do with this as well just blind hope and dreams.

Remember it was only April of this year when we looked clueless against Hayes and Yeading.
Let's not get too high and mighty just yet

Remember it was only April of this year when we looked clueless against Hayes and Yeading. You can replace the word looked with the word were. Thank god for alcohol or the day would have been a complete disaster. Now enough about that. I'd rather remember R&D home 2nd leg or even the play off final. If we finish in the playoffs it will be a great season. Anything below half way poor. Anything in between expected.

BBC SPORT TODAY Article /blog thingy by Paul Fletcher titled: To Close To Call.
He then goes through the main candidates for promotion relegation, nearly everyone gets a mention except us and Torquay so I guess that means in his journo opinion we will finish a comfortable mid table ??
Still shows some insite into non Oxford opinion on the league and its teams ....? Storm this division ? I dont think so ...... get into the playoffs that will be great .

I would be happy with a top half finish.

If someone asked me what he did, I'd say film director, King Kong?

Do well, why not? Top half 4 sure,we have the manager,a team who wants 2 play 4 the yellows with pride back after years of hell, and the best fans who are going 2 be up 4 it! It will be cool 2 be underdogs 4 a very long time!

Obviously it would be nice to win the league, and it's certainly not beyond us, but in reality I think mid-table is the likely outcome. The teams are better, and let's remember that Stevenage finished well above us.
We need to finish in safe mid-table area, consolidate what we have by further improving the squad, and then launch a serious assault on the title in 2011-12.

One thing that will hopefully suit is that we are the under dogs in most games.

I'll be really surprised if we don't make top 10. A playoff spot is well within our grasp.
Why?
1 There is little difference between this league and BSP
2 We are great at home
3 We are extremely well-organised (which is about all you need at this level)
4 We have two players for every position. In terms of squad (at the level we're at), I've never seen a stronger OUFC one. Would be amazed if there were 7 other teams who could boast this
5 Beano and Green's goal to game ratios are superb
6 We've got a very good defence
7 And this is most key, according to Wilder, every side isn't desperate to put one over us

Some valuable points, but this two players for every position thing: we're back in the league, most if not all sides will have full squads, with two players competing for every position.

Most promoted sides do well intially on the adrenaline rush that comes with promotion. It's towards the end of September when that wears out and the opposition have gained a good idea of what we are about that the problems might start. If we can continue the good form then promotion is possible. Otherwise a mid table position is likely.

It's going to be a tight division at the top this year.
Right now I'm playing safe and thinking we'll be mid table and top 10 at best. I've got an inkling of how good we can be I just don't know how good the rest of this league can be yet.
League 2 will be a step up. How much of one is what I'm itching to find out.

I can't understand the attitudes of some 'happy to finish mid-table' 'Top ten at best' 'Blind hope and dreams' Etc etc... I don't believe for one minute the manager, players or Chairman are harbouring those negative thoughts, we have nothing to be afraid of - Our aim should be to win the league, if we fall short of that, then a play off spot. Waving the white flag before the season even kicks off is not how the traditions and success of this Club has been acheived. OUFC has so often in the past punched above its weight, and there are many Bigger Clubs who have not been to Wembley twice -as we have!! So why should we not have a little bravado?

Because last time we were in league 2 we thought we were better than we were and didn't for a second think we would even be in the bottom half let alone the relegation equation. Our stint in non league has, I feel, made fans quite humble and merely gratefull for the fact we are out of that hell hole. Let's see where this season takes us let's not raise the bar too high before a balls even been kicked yet.
