Played a collection of 16 to 18 year olds. Struggled for large sections of the match until the youngsters ran out of steam. Conceded two goals to free kicks outside the area (the third in the last two matches). Constable the only one who looked like scoring.
Hmmm! a little worrying that. Especially the last bit.

Glass 3/4's empty, my word!!! You watched a completely different game to me.
We were outstanding for large parts, against a good set of youngsters.

Forgot to say, we had a 'celebrity' in OM stand tonight. For the soap fans amongst us he played 'tricky Dickey' in Eastenders and Liz's boyfriend Vernon in Corrie.

I'm absolutely astounded at above! Generally played very well against a good (albeit young) side. Didn't see Saturday but thought Batt was immense, new CB's worked well together almost all the time and we were also playing a set of officials who were overawed by the occasion - if he is a defender in a red shirt and he puts his arm in the air, I must put my flag up/I can't give penalties against anybody in a red shirt etc!

Lots of rose tinted glasses around tonight. The main difference was the shear physical strength of Oxford's players. Not surprising given the age of the opposition. Fortunately the Man U. side had the same problem as United, no one to put the ball in the net. If we were so good why did we lose! Lots of effort and no finish as far as I am concerned. I repeat, on that performance if Beano doesn't score then United don't score.

In a competitive match, nobody would have pushed Hall in the penalty area, so he would have scored, Green would have risen to the occasion due to more pressure, and he would have scored, and I imagine between them Hall and Heslop will manage a goal every couple of games. Plus, if our super subs come on earlier in competitive matches, they'll inevitably get us a fair few throughout the season. Yeah, I can understand the worry if Beano doesn't score, but the fact is Hall is right in saying that he'll be on 15-odd at the end of the season, Green will have at least his tally from last season (he looks a lot sharper, I reckon he could break into the 20's), Beano will be his usual self... that looks good enough to me.

I didn't see the game, but as I mentioned in the match thread, I sense we've struggled for goals in all the friendly's so far (bar Didcot). I've got a feeling that we'll be hard to beat come the season proper, but not win games due to not taking chances. Hope i'm wrong.

Rose tints indeed and what is wrong with that.
I expect you were saying the same last season. Beano is our "out and out" goal scorer. There are plenty of other players who will contribute this season.
Greeny, played half of last season and scored double figures and will do so this season.
We have a much better goal threat from midfield this season.
Asa Hall scored 15 in league 2 when playing regularly.
Heslop's set pieces so far look so much better than we have had for many a year, excellent corners and set pieces whipped in. He looks like he will hit a few screamers too.
Potter, Deering & Cole are all a goal threat and will create many with their pace an trickery.
I can see us scoring more from set pieces due to the fact that we have Heslop who appears more effective so far than Murray ever was.
Batt at the end of last season and so far in pre-season has put so many more good balls into the box and Tonks and Kinni will do the same.
IMO, even with my biased Rost Tinted Spec's we have plenty of goal threat.

Threat is one thing, finishing another. I said back on TiU that I felt we were a striker short. I still think we may be. Like last season we ask a lot of Beano I hope he stays fit and away from those yellow cards he tends to daftly pick up.
Is it just me or is it time for Midson to step up and weigh in with more goals?

Very unfair on Beano. How many bookings has he picked up since he was Captain??? Not many at all.

If that had been a real game Beano would have been booked tonight.

I think that Beano now being the captain will (hopefully )curb his aggresion a tad. I second what millman says about Midson. The guy gets himself in some fantastic goal scoring situations but hardly delivers. Lets hope that changes from Aug 7th.

I agree, and I thought Matt Green had a good game as well, but we definitely need another striker. Also, Midson isn't suited to playing wide on the left, his best position is just behind a front two.

There can be nothing but positives from tonight. We were outstanding for most of the match. Asa Hall was bright, Heslop looked steady, Bullman looks really fit, Green was his usual self, Beano got a goal, Beast looked good, Worley looks a hell of a prospect, Clarke saved a penalty, we hit the post twice, the ref didn't give us a blatant penalty, need I go on? I've come away from the ground really enthused about the season. Bring it on.

Beast had a bit of a mare.
Gave away a stupid penalty and then nearly put them in with a suicidal backpass.
After that he settled down a bit and did OK.

Thought we played pretty well, created alot. Still dont look much going forward in the box if Beano isnt finishing and the bad defending of free kicks is worrying.
