After all the calls on here to create a better atmosphere is a group of about 20 teenagers claiming to sing on there own as half the stand are rubbish and they are having a great time really the way forward? Personally as a vocal (but older) member of the right side i was mildly irritated by the superior/smug attitude of the younger ellement today. The way forward surely is to encourage, not alienate the whole end to sing together and when the more inclusive and encouraging team songs were sung today the atmosphere was good. Remember we are all on the same side and want the same thing, please don't try and pretend you are better than the quieter fans who may need a little encouragement, we are in this together. Every single fan who pays money to support Oxford United wants the team to win and a good atmosphere, irritating your own fans is not the way forward!

Yeah I think you've completely missed the point.
Their jibe got everyone singing didn't it?
It got the atmosphere going and in the second half its been the best all season probably. Generally worked I thought. Unless I misunderstood it and the ultras were being dicks. But I spoke to 'wispa' when walking out and he said it was meant to 'get atmosphere going'.
Or do you not agree with the idea of this?

Good post, but I wouldn't say they were irritating. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance threshold of the youth element. Good singing banter at one point between the right and left.

Buzzlightyear's not a happy bunny today. Upset that the SMHS didn't batter a few retarded northern skinheads, and now upset with the young singers for some reason best known to himself.
Lighten up Buzz! We played really well today, and won!

Seriously don't think insulting your own fans is the way forward, do you think it would have worked against Southend?

I thought the east stand were louder today than they have been for a long time In patches, and obviously after the goals. I had the rare opportunity to assess from the SSU today and generally I could here little from the East Stand. Not our supporters fault - crap stadium accoustics with open corners combined with a wind that sucked most noise out.

Also away from that 1 song the left out sung the right, again....

No chance Junior is was well loud on the right (I wish).
Although I could not make out all of the words I thought the song was amusing and maybe too close to the mark for some. Felt they did well to carry it on and generate some noise when it could have been quiet so well done to them.
I was the only one around me singing early on but I resolutely stuck to it as I had promised before the game. I was very pleased that the team got such a good ovation at half time despite being down and heard very few moans today. Lets keep it up.

Sitting in the North stand I can't say I heard much singing apart from the group to my right, must be the acoustics of the stadium; however I did hear the general noise and excitement from all around the stadium (ok not the west stand !!!!). This wasn't fan led, this was player led. If they perform like this more often there will be no shortage of electric atmosphere.

And if you're referring to 'that' song, that got boring after the second time it was sung I sang throughout the whole game and i've lost my voice ;D

If you are who I think you are you sit just in front of me.
Have to say that I personally dislike the song and the fact that most of the crowd dont know the words does make it quite divisive.
The thing that really winds me up though is the fact that they just sing it over and over and over.
Make some noise, im all for it and sing at every game home and away, but mix it up and try and get the whole crowd going with stuff that non away fans will know.

I thought the have a pop at the fans song was immature and didn't help the atmosphere at all. I don't get what it was supposed to achieve as the left side shut up and the people on the right side who didn't know the words shut up as well. What was it trying to achieve apart from a few kids feeling smug?
I don't understand why some of our fans are again going down the we're better than you stuff and thinking it's funny to have a go at other fans because they don't think they sing loud enough. The atmosphere was good because of the game, not because of any particular group singing songs.

Who'd have thought going to football having a laugh and getting behind the team could pset so many. A bit of banter that's all.
Thought it got quite a lot of people involved personally, not just the youngs uns either, the older lads seemed to enjoy it the most, but I suppose that'd take away the idea of having another pop at some lads who'd rather not sit in silence at a match.

What I don't understand is that Sloop John B lyrics "best trip i've ever been on, I wanna go home" sounds like it should be for away games. I'm not bothered if it is a copy from Man City or whoever. But singing it constantly for twenty minutes was a bit monotonous when it is only the lads at the back who know and sing the words.
What about "look into my heart"? at least there were a few "in the mix", "you are my sunshine" etc. and on the left side, "come on oxford", "come on. come on", "chrissy wilders yellow army" are getting heard a bit too much too.
but it was a better home atmosphere than normal, play on the pitch helped most.
