Just watched his interview on Yellow Player and it's very positive. He describes himself as a creative player who likes to get assists and if a chance comes his way he'll stick it in the back of the net. He sounds keen to force his way into the 11 and show the fans and team what he can do. Sounded to me like he out to get a contract whether here or somewhere else in the league rather than your usual Prem loan out for "experience". Lets hope he can earn himself a contact with us in over the next month. Extremely impressive first impression of the lad. Sounded like he was here to get into the team and impress, and at the age, it's a great attitude to have. I think it's another option that we possibly didn't have before, and I for one am looking forward to his debut tonight.

I got the striker call all wrong. I assumed that the faith being shown in Woodley this year would prompt Wilder to bring in an experienced strker to bolster the front line - Wilder seems hell-bent on continuing down the "young and hungry" route. Does the arrival of another youngster signify that Wilder has fresh doubts over Woodley? No, just that he thinks Woodley needs another season to really mature.

I see Chelsea describe him as a midfielder? United describe him as a second striker or midfield? That implies that he is not an out an out striker one capable of taking on the role of Beano in an emergency, but acting as a replacement for Jack Midson? But as he is only on loan for a month he could be covering both Baker and Midson, until injury or form get's better. My thoughts exactly when I read the two descriptions. He seems more like a creaive midfielder to me. Also the Chelsea's site is quite preceise that he will return to Chelsea on August the 29th. Added later:- Just seen the interview and it seems he is a creative midfielder.

So do we need another striker or not?! I think he's going to be played up front.

I think it's clear that this lad is generally considered by Chelsea as a midfield but CW thinks he has the potential to play up front and that is where he's been brought in to play.

i'm a bit confused.
creative midfielders, who can play 'in the hole', is a strong point of the squad. hall, deering, potter, and barker can all play there
so not sure why we've signed this chap when we are in need of an out-and-out striker in the beano mould
perhaps we're going to play like spain?

Wouldn’t Woodley (or any other youngster) mature at a faster rate through the experience of more opportunities in the first team? Presumably that is the motivation of Chelsea loaning us Philliskirk.

If we sign an out-and-out striker unless something happens to Beano then he'll never play (or be played out of position like Midson), which would be a waste of a wage.
We have a 20 goal striker in Constable (how many teams have even that let alone 2), what we need is more goals from the rest of the squad and I think that is what needs to be addressed (hopefully Philliskirk can provide that).

i don't think you can argue we don't need an out-and-out striker because 'he'll never play'
on that rationale we only need one goalkeeper
we can only play three midfielders at one time, too so there would be no point of having as many as barker, hall, heslop, bulman, clist, philliskirk?
no. we need another out-and-out striker, in my opinion, for the same reason we need two left-backs, two right-backs, five centre-halves. Cover for all positions.
if beano is injured/suspended we are lacking

We do not have 2 "star" keepers we have one first-teamer and one as cover (hopefully good enough cover should something happen to Clarke). You why would a decent striker in the 20 goal a season mold (Brodie for example as he was talked about) come here to play understudy, I'd certainly question their motives.

I guess the new guys going to be ahead of Woodley so how's our own strikers going to get experience when we sign on loan Chelsea players. He's hardly a kid after all.

i'm not saying we should sign a "20-goal proven striker" but if we got one i certainly wouldn't be complaining. it's wilder's job to make sure everyone is motivated
we do need another striker, though to help beano and green out. there are doubts about midson while woodley's chances have suffered a hammer blow today
i'd also argue that this 'new striker' could also be used as cover for green or beano, and out pressure on them both. at the moment they are cast-iron starets in my book 9as they should be given their respective records)
i just think our goal threat is severely diominished when we're missing either

Wilder seems to think the new guy is a striker so I'd expect to see him play in one of the 3 forward roles, whether he thinks he's a striker or not (at least at the start of his loan spell ).

People seem to think Deering/Potter can play as a 2nd striker or 'in the hole'. Both are unproven and I personally think un suited to these positions. They are wide men, either on the wings or perhaps as part of a front 3.
I can see this guy pushing for the 3rd front 3 spot, with Beano and Green the other two. If this guy can improve service to others then Beano, Green, Hall, Heslop will all score more through him hopefully.
As harsh as it sounds and he is unproven with us in league 2, but Im betting hes got more potential then deering/potter to push midson out of the squad.

it really is bad news for woodley
will be interesting to see how this philliskirk chap gets on
with his pedigree, he should be very, very good. this might just turn out to be an absolute masterstroke
anyone know if it was in the pipeline for some time? given rumours about a kid from a PL team i'd guess so

Woodley has to score more goals than he does in the Youth and reserve team to force his way into the team.

Woodley has to score more goals than he does in the Youth and reserve team to force his way into the team. If this was Wilders view it seams strange to keep him just as a reserve team player.
