Its interesting to read peoples views on players. Those that like Creighton point to last season and pick out games he did well in but "conveniently" forget about the games he was poor in and not mention pre season where he has conceded 2 penalties, 2 free kicks that have led to goals and dropped Clarke right in it with a poor backpass. Apart from these errors he has been very good apparently. Midson has a poor pre season game where is probably more interested in avoiding injury, gets no service and he is hopeless and has to go. Forgotten are his 20 goals for Histon or the goals he got when he played up front in the trophy or the fact that his return to the team last season coincided with our revival. Life would be boring if everyone agreed. Do you really think the worry about Midson not scoring is about 1 pre season game, and other players have faults but it's not their job to score goals and I think we have a major concern where the goals are coming from apart from Beano. Mids is the weak link in the "front 3" at the moment, have we got the luxury to wait and see if he comes good? I hope he does produce goals, that will then save on money that might be better spent elsewhere. Mids did score 20 goals for Histon, but what position did he play, did he have the expectation level and pressure to score as he does here, was that his "good season" we don't know, what we do know is last season he wasn't good enough to force his was in to the first team regularly in CW eyes, and the resultant goal tally was also poor, he has not scored in preseason even though he's had enough chances, if he is low on confidence and a little out off sorts fine, but as we have no other striker to put up front, you can see the worry this situation causes, I really don't know if another forward is coming in, but on what I and many others have seen we need one to help Beano score goals. Having looked back at last season Midson started 25 games, we won 19, drew 4 and lost 2. He didnt start in 30 games, we won 13, drew 8 and lost 9. I believe you can proove virtually anything with statistics if you pick the ones you want but would suggest its hard to argue that we wernt a better TEAM with Midson in it. I think he started as a striker (trophy games, Beano suspended or injured) in 8 games, we won 5, drew 2 and lost 1 and he scored 4 goals. This prooves nothing because the game count is too low. I would suggest Wilder must have some confidence in Jacks ability to play up front or he would surely have signed another striker. In reality we have Beano, Midson and possibly Green that could play as a central striker. Someone will have to play there when Beano is suspended (again) or injured. I like Midson as a player for what he contributes to the team but i would be concerned if Beano did get injured early in the season and was out for some time for several reasons:- Can Midson score? Will he contribute as well with two centre backs kicking lumps out of him rather than one full back behind him? Who plays left? Potter and Deering look more and more like being super subs rather than starters and have a feeling this may apply to Cole. This is a long way around saying i think we do need another striker that can cover for Beano and give Midson and Green competition for a starting place.

We should have kept Sodje I take it this isn't a whoosh but, yes, I too would have kept Sodje. I'm surprised more effort wasn't made to make him a permanent signing. He had a great leap for a smallish bloke and seemed as strong as an ox. He didn't threaten the goal that much in his brief spell but there was just something about him that I feel we could have worked on and moulded a usefu lplayer. He has had goals in him previously elsewhere so its not as if we'd have been taking a huge gamble on that front either.

Shoulda kept Yemi. Could threaten out on the wing, elusive, loved taking players on... Not necessarily a genuine suggestion, but someone like him who can score goals without sitting right in front of goal would solve our problems. However, we had this problem last season (in fact even worse, Deering wasn't scoring) and it definitely turned out alright. I don't think this is as much of an issue as people make it out to be, although a new striker would definitely do no harm. I reckon Deering, Midson and Potter all have the potential to get 10 goals this season, and Cole might as well, but I haven't seen enough of him to tell.

I think i read somewhere that Hall played two full seasons for Luton and scored 15 goals in both from midfield. That sort of contribution would certainly take some pressure off the forwards this season, goals from midfield was not a strong point last season. We have a team largely unproven in the league and everyone on here (including me) thinks that Beano will get 20 goals this season. Two league managers thought differently or he wouldnt be here. Matt Green was not prolific in his one season for Torquay. If we start to struggle for goals i think a loan signing will be brought in quickly, another Jordan Rhodes would be nice.

Would be very disappointed to see Midson leave. Agreed, one of the best players at Wembley and his touch looked a class above. I don't see everyone's worry about him 'adjusting'. He's in the same boat as the rest of the squad, what's to say he won't do just as well as everyone else? I think he'll have a good season, and I for one am more than happy with him playing as one of three and/or as a competent Beano back-up.

I certainly don't think Jack Midson is leaving as CW has already talked about him having a big part to play. He just needs a goal to get going as everything else about his game was a positive for the team, in the run-in and in the play-offs, after he had adjusted to the system. As has been said, he is no different from the other players in that we don't know how they will perform in the FL.
