I need your opinions about an important matter relating to these forums
The creator of these forums had to hand over control to me back in August. Since this date I have not heard from him.
When I contacted the proboard support team for an issue I was told I could not be supported because Yellows didn't transfer ownership to me.
What this means
If the forums were to be compromised meaning no forum for a considerable amount of time, proboards became a paid service or we even decided on an ad free version. Nothing could be done.
The possible solution.
Would be to move over to a new forum, which I have reserved in case. The downside being unable to transfer posts and accounts over.
However, these forums would be viewable and should anyone get their username stolen during the transition, a simple PM on this forum would resolve it.
I see this as covering ourselves should the above happen.
What do you think? Migrate to a new forum or just leave things?
Thanks
ESB

If the forum went down for a prolonged period could you e mail everyone? How likely is this? I'm not bothered about post totals, though YH would tell you otherwise.

if the forum went down due to being hacked or something?
I doubt I would be able to gain access to email out. Proboards would need the owner to contact them I'm order to get things back.

If I were you, I'd make plans to migrate sooner rather than later if the risk is great enough. Stick with your current Mods and keep up the good work.

Move to the new forum now. It would be a shame to have to start again, but not insurmountable and better than logging in one morning to find it's gone!
We should all make a concerted effort to contact all those we know on here. Hopefully all those who don't know anyone, like Baldy, will read this in time.
Go for it! Gav can rebuild his total in no time.
PS Suggest you replicate this in every section and keep bumping it to the top. Or let Gav do it.

What you could do ESB is give out the address of the new forum and allow everyone to register, BUT DON'T ALLOW ANY POSTS AT ALL, whilst running it in tandem with this site, until evryone has registered. Then when everyone has registered, make the big migration.

Hi Oxo
I was thinking of doing this, a week of sign ups only, then close off this one and open up the new one...

I like the idea 'Oxo'
Except for the idea that we have to wait till everyone has signed up.
I think everyone should sign up and stuff but the posting should only be unlocked once this forum goes down/hopefully it will never do that.

I think you do have to wait until most people have signed up, otherwise you may start to get two forums running on half power.

Sounds sensible Oxo, but don't forget to factor in the inate apathy of the board. 100 viewers of this thread, only three votes, for instance. If there's a two stage approach few will sign up to a dormant forum, in my opinion. Go for the big bang and people won't have a choice but to sign up for the new forum, if they want to continue posting.

You could be right YH, but posts on this forum would have to be disabled right from the off. Just leave a big message Saying 'The Forum Has Moved, If you would like to continue posting click here...
That sort of thing....... yeh sounds good.

Just dont make the mistakes the Oxford Mail did. Or someone another forum might be a better option for people. Fair play on consulting people on this. But the consultation may need to last a couple of weeks as some people dont come on here often. A big move would lose a lot of forum users, which would be a shame. Any chance of geting in contact with yellows?

Is there no way to contact 'Yellows' and get this forum officially changed over to you?
Ha ha, John Lennon beat me to it!

I have tried, i even asked Proboards to contact him with the address he registered. that was almost two weeks ago, with no reply.
The new forum is setup, identical to this, just missing posts and users.

It might be a good idea when this happens to tell everyone to go into their profiles and copy their avatar address, so they can paste it straight into their new account. Otherwise alot of peoples avatars will be lost.

Another thing eaststandboy (im not having a go, just making suggestions) The matches section is getting clogged up. So could you remove the new forum link thread, and just have thread for this link (there is currently 2)
And the new posts alert on the left hand side is doing my head in

Otherwise alot of peoples avatars will be lost. Dont worry, this forum will still be viewable, so when new accounts are created you can come back to this form and grab your avatar.

I vote for moving a.s.a.p. Should an attack happen (we have experienced it at Grass Roots) then it would be impossible to communicate to members where the new site is. The attack at GR was resolved but mainly because Gaz (the Luton fan who set it all up) is still the official owner and so we had plenty of support from the forum provider. As esb is not the official owner I should take steps to get that resolved immediatly. If that means a new account then so be it.
And if anybody feels like creeping back to the Oxford Fail I'll send the missus to deal with you!
