a back to back promotion as the momentum would be upset with a bigger club coming in for CW. I hope we hold onto CW but it will be hard if we go up again.

No logic in that argument at all.

Yes, let's hope we don't get promoted.

If we get promoted again, our best players/manager won't leave, surely, because the club's on the up?

Mad as this thread is, football fans get too attached to any manager or player who is perceived to be 'good' and 'loyal'. Equal to this dispropportionate outpouring of love (Jack Midson anyone?) is a fans fear of change. Football fans also love nostalgia, wallowing in perceived past glories and even hard times!
All of the above are an unsustainable, rose tinted view of life.
I don't think its beyond the wit of Chris Wilder to find another Steve Maclean and I don't think its beyond the wit of Kelvin Thomas (and Jim Smith?) to find somebody of equal ability should Chris Wilder leave.
Change happens, it would be a rather dull life without it.

As long as KT stays as the daddy, we will just keep improving....with or without our current staff.

I posted last week and i quote "i suppose now that we have won a few games, people will be touting Wider for West Ham,Bournemouth,Liverpool etc etc" And i also commented that at the start of the season people were coming on here saying, "Wilder is going to Sheff Utd" "its his team" "he is going to leave" Funny that Sheff Utd have had 4 managers this season are looking like relegation material but they havent come knocking on Oxfords door. Why not? because our manager has been in non-league for years and has 6 months experience of being a league manager. I very much doubt if you said the name Chris Wilder to any championship chairman, they would have a clue who you were talking about.

Now the club has a solid infrastructure it would not be a disaster. When Ian Greaves left everyone thought that would be the end of the recovery ... upsteps Jim Smith. When Jim Smith left it was all doom and gloom .. upsteps Maurice Evans and six months later the Milk Cup. I feel the club is now in the right hands with KT to recruit another decent manager if CW left, so don't panic!

On the flip side Wilder turned down Championship Peterborough last season before achieving promotion. Many chairmen wouldn't have a clue who he is, but may would be pretty impressed by his record upon application as Jim Smith and Kelvin were with him a couple of years ago. Don't underestimate how hot a property our great manager is.

I wasn't trying to say we don't want promotion, but lets walk before we run etc. I personally think CW is the best manager we've had for bloody years and don't want some other club luring him away. That's all. :-)

No No No. Back to back promotion would be great for the club, manager, players and most of all the supporters. Playing in Div 1 will be better than Div 2. If it means we lose our manager so be it. You must bear in mind that CW is new to the league and therefore inexperienced. If another club came in then we would have to employ another manager simple. The players who are not considered good enough will leave and be replaced by better league 1 players.
No for me back 2 back promotion would be ideal, bring it on.

Change happens, it would be a rather dull life without it. Whilst I get what you are saying just how many managers have managed two promotions in the last 41 years? How many managers have won 55% and lost only 20% of the games they have been in charge of? How many Manager's turned the club's fortunes around in the space of a handful of games? How many have achieved remarkable success on limited budgets? If CW gets us promoted again even if it is not this year then he will be worth every effort to keep him. This is not wallowing in nostalgia just taking account of some very hard facts that successful Managers are as rare as rocket horse shit so we need to do our best to keep one when we have it. It is no coincidence that the two longest serving Managers in the land have also been the most successful but must have been in demand from other clubs throughout their careers. Their clubs knew what they had and would not let them go.
