Golf GTI is still a great practical favourite but I would be very happy with a tuned up VRS Octavia One of my pupils father's has a Mercedes B320 I think not the E and it cost around £100K and is now looking to replace it with a Gullwing Mercedes at around £150000

Hamster in Mclaren f1 and the Stig in a Merc and it was close.

I've also got a TVR Chimaera in a lock up. Now that is one seriously fast car, albeit not beautiful to look at.

The straight line acceleration of a Chimaera is it's main attribute, though it is fun to spin round on someone's gravel drive......

How much would you sell the TVR for? I have always wanted one but my wife would talk me out of buying one as it is not practical. I nearly had a new Corrado but was persuaded to reduce the mortgage instead

I nearly had a new Corrado but was persuaded to reduce the mortgage instead Sorry but the TVR is not for sale. It cost me £25k 5 years ago and I've done 2000 miles in it and it's worth £5k apparently but to me its worth more, as an occasional weekend car. By the time the mortgage is paid off you'll be driving a Toyota Corolla. I'd get the fun car now while you can. Understand the sensible option of reducing the mortgage though.

When i was still in my infancy as a driver my dads company car was a 5.3 fuel injection XJ12 JAG. "can i borrow the car dad" was my weekly enquiry, and he used to let me!!!!!!! Bearing in mind the best car any of my mates used to have was a mark 1 cavalier, this car was a dream. Im sure the petrolheads on here will scoff at a 1970s Jag,there reputation was carp, they rusted to fkk and were as reliable as Uniteds defence. But when you are a teenager with a car full of mates bombing up the motorway to Burnley,Bury,Barnsley or wherever,i really was king of the road. First stop Hartwells in Abingdon,(company account) fill up the twin tanks with about 50 quids worth of juice and away we went. It was a horrid blue colour and had a black vinyl roof! but to me it was magic, first car i ever drove with electric windows, and what an engine. Once went to Swindon and we stopped off at the Lady Margaret pub in stratton,(its called something else now)and parked the car by the side of the pub, loads of Oxford outside the pub having a drink.A gang of scum came down the road and must of thought we were directors of Swindon or something with our flash Jag, we told them otherwise and chased them down the road. The registration number of my dads Jag. SFC 555 T. Had loads of quality cars in my life, modern cars will beat 70s cars hands down everytime, but to this 50 something daydreamer, that 5.3 fuel injection XJ12 Jaguar with all the memories of picking up the lads and bombing all over the country will forever be my dream machine.
