Moving back to Oxford after 5 years (I think) on the sunshine coast in Eastbore retirement capital of the world.
Having re acquainted myself with fishing I was wondering whether anyone could suggest some decent day ticket carp lakes or alike in the surrounding area. Used to fish on the river but am really enjoying lakes these days.
Any information would be lovely. Cheers.

Hi there. Young Carp fisherman here. I started only just over a year ago but been to a few places. If your after the big carp 30lb+ then St Johns and Manor lake up in standlake near witney is defo the place to be. nationally known as great fishing lakes. I've fished a couple of other places too. Newlands next to st johns and manor lake is a great little set of lakes with a good head of carp. best one ive had out there was a 21lb common. Chad lakes in the cotswold is the most beautiful lake ive fished and fished for an overnight session and caught 3, biggest one was 16lb 8 Radley lakes was where i fished all my childhood, good head of carp and guarenteed to catch on the lunchenmeat Hope thats helped a little

Carefree, I wouldn't recommend the Linear complex. Cracking fish in there but it is expensive fishing and all Linear are interested in is taking your money. They get idiots from all over the country fishing on there and the baliffs don't normally help if you've got a problem with other anglers acting like clowns.

Cheers for the advice guys, Any of you fished Orchid lakes or know anything about that came up when i googled it earlier on. Also Milton Lakes or Milton Fishery I think was another one
Not too fussed about size big or small(ish) just somewhere to have a chilled out fish on a sunday after an emphatic win and night out.
Anyway thanks again for the information

Fished Orchid quite a bit. Well run fishery but again expensive and there is a bit of a clicky vibe on there with the regulars.
Unlike Linear though, you are treated better and it is a safe and secure place to fish nights etc.

Agree with others, stay clear of the linear complex, over priced and pretentious.
You could try somewhere like Manor lake at Kirtlington (day ticket) carp to around 30ish lb.
You say you prefer lakes, but if its carp your after there are some good lumps in the Thames and canals through out Oxon.

Rye Hill, near Banbury is a cracking little lake and a well kept secret, Milton pools just off the M40 is quite expensive but gives you lots of variety due to the various lakes there.
As for thoughts on Orchid, the main lake is great if you have a few days to fish it and the patience to do so, otherwise use club lake there, lots of bream and tench as well as carp and catfish.

It is actually part of the golf course, you take a small right turn before the club entrance and drop into a valley with the lake at the bottom.

That 13lb may be in the high 20's now though Orchid will probably be the closest to me so will have to have a look there then. Site looks promising but I will wait until im packing up to give a proper opinion on it

In terms of Orchid, what is the deal with the lakes? Is the club lake the smaller one that offers the day ticket and Orchid lake is a minimum 24hr ticket?

In terms of Orchid, what is the deal with the lakes? Is the club lake the smaller one that offers the day ticket and Orchid lake is a minimum 24hr ticket? The club lake is tiny and has very large catfish in. I think you can get a normal day ticket on it and min 24hr on Orchid. At least that's what the rules used to be. When I used to fish Orchid it was stuffed with tench and bream, so if they're still in there (which I expect they are) don't use pellet or you have a bream every cast.

That 13lb may be in the high 20's now though Considering they never used to shut the gates at night, hardly anyone night fished it and the large numbers of Poles now living in the Banbury area, I wouldn't be surprised if the carp in there have been nicked for the table.

haha yeah you might be right about that, didn't realise they wondered out as far as Bloxham and Milcombe for dinner.5
Will give the Club Lake a try next time im up and see how it is. Had a look at Milton seemed like its ruled with an iron rod up there

I fish at Barton Court, bit of a way out,( Newbury area) but very good fishing, away from any roads so very relaxing.
Good head of large carp and bream plus you can night fish it.
