In my opinion the side that starts Saturday at Burton will have a distinctly different look to it when the season is well and truly under way; Here's what i think the side will be Saturday, followed by what i think will be our strongest and settled line up throughout the season. CLARKE
BATT CREIGHTON WORLEY TONKS
BULMAN HESLOP HALL
POTTER BEANO GREEN The side that will take us up will be; CLARKE
PURKISS WORLEY WRIGHT TONKS
BULMAN HESLOP CLIST
HALL
BEANO GREEN /PHILISKIRK Depending on wether we get an extension on Philiskirk's loan, but i've been reliably informed he's well above this league, and will be a massive assett to us if we can keep him. Cant see a place for Beast with the quality of defenders at the club, also as soon as Purkiss gets an opportunity he will be very hard to dislodge from the Right back position. Left back is difficult as we have two very good defenders there, but if Tonks can keep his form i think he will just get the nod. Of course Cole will play his part as will deering and Potter,CW has a hell of a job on his hands keeping people happy,as the squad in my mind is a very strong one in every position.

I have a couple of changes Tonks will be replaced by Killy and Clist will struggle to get back in the team. I just cannot see Philiskirk still being here.

The 1st few games as 2 be BEANO/ GREEN up front! I would like 2 see how they get on in a high LG and they know how each other play!May be PHILISKIRK as a sub 2 start!?

I think that YY is about right about the starting lineup for Saturday.
Of course, we can have seven on the bench in the league, so CW will have a wider choice of changes he can make later in the game. I think Philliskirk will be on the bench and may well come on - he did well in the preseason match and there's little point in having him for a month if he isn't going to get a sniff.

York fans seem to suggest he is good going forward but not too brilliant at defending. I would struggle to see hardly any full backs at this level that can attack as well as Batt can when he is on form and he is also decent defensively. I agree that Tonkin will stay ahead of Kinniburgh if both are fit - next season will be Kinni's though if he continues to improve.

Batt picks up a lot of bookings, and had his fair share of injuries last season.I just feel that when Purkiss gets an opporutunity he will show what a good defender he is. We are lucky in the fact that we appear to have four very good full backs on our books,i agree that Batt is in pole position, but feel he will have stiff competition, which can only be healthy for the team.

didnt CW say that Midson is in the plans tho? Very much so apparently, Dont think Midson has played as well as he could do so far this pre-season, and hasnt done much to guarantee a starting place at Burton, I no some have mentioned they would prefer to see Mitchell Cole start on the left hand side of a three-pronged attack ahead of jack Midson.

Still think the starting eleven will be as close to the Wembley side that Wilder can get barring injuries and disappearances.

Honestly can't see Potter starting. He's a late-match goal threat, and an excellent link-up partner with Deering, but on his own he doesn't add that much to the team. Green and Beano are instant choices up-front, but I think Cole and Midson will compete for the left hand side of attack. Deering might sneak in by the end of the season, though. I don't think Purkiss will dislodge Batt. In fact, I can see Purkiss disappearing off the radar based on Batt's pre-season. I reckon Kinni is a name for next season, and when he comes good, he could be one of the best players we've had in a long time.

Batt is twice as good IMO, from what I've seen of both and heard from York fans.

no little Sammy Deering in anyone's lineups?
I hope that makes him everyone's supersub. We'll need his speed of thought, ability and movement to help us do well this season imo.
Are Hall and Heslop so much more creative than him in midfield? Or are they better all round players? I've not seen them play yet so forgive my ignorance.

Deering is 10 times more useful running at a tired defence. Hall and Heslop are taller, more physical and better defensively. Deering could start, but that would waste him somewhat. Give him another couple of years and he'll be a starter, but he's better as a sub for now. Hall, Heslop and Bulman was a fearsome combination in the pre-season, so there's no reason to tinker with it.

all i will say is,it is good that we have competition in all positions.we all know wilder wont tolerate slackers.it will keep a few more focused than they were last season. i think it is good that purkiss will push batt for a place, when he is on form, batt that is,he is such a good outlet going forward and gives good pace on recovering in defence. having not seen any pre-season games i am looking forward to tomorrrow to see what we have to offer this season.
