Just thought I'd like to be positive about the upcoming season, based on our pre-season matches etc. I've seen a lot of criticisms and advised improvements on this forum, and I just thought it might be nice to point out everything good about our chances for the season.
First, I hear the sunday times predicts us finishing 5th... anybody got a conformation of that?
Second, I think we look a lot stronger than last season. Green looks like a consistent goal threat, not just for big games, and Beano isn't showing any signs of stopping. Hall, Heslop and Deering all look like they could net between 10 and 15 goals this season, and I genuinely think we have a serious goal threat all over the field. Plus, our midfield no longer looks like the weakest part of our squad, and I can really see teams struggling against us if they underestimate us (bigger clubs inevitably will).
Finally, Chris Wilder. Enough said.
Any POSITIVE thoughts to add? I just thought it might be nice to have a thread which is only for all things positive about Oxford. Go crazy, have a party, and remember: BE POSITIVE

I will eco those sentiments, I think out squad is stronger now than I can ever remember, we could pick two completely different starting 11’s. I am not sure we have ever been able to say that. We have a great squad, a great manger a great chairman and a great set of supports. All we can do as supports is prove the last part of that sentence is true.

Lots of positives:
1. We don't have to go to Histon 2. We don't have to go to Forest Green 3. We don't have to go to Barrow 4. We don't have to go to Crawley...
I think you get my drift.

We still have to go to stevenage though. Plus, if all goes well, we'll end up having to go to swindon next season. That'll be even worse.

Any negatives?

Negatives:
Accrington. No seaside trips when decent weather expected. Away fans won't be much more than last year.

Negatives: Away fans won't be much more than last year. I suspect the overall number of away fans will increase by a decent amount considering we will be playing clubs who could bring reasonable away supports such as Northampton, Wycombe, Aldershot, Port Vale, Gillingham and Bradford (dependent on how they are doing). Also, the likes of Hereford, Cheltenham, Chesterfield and Lincoln should bring a few more than the bog standard BSP team! The only ones who are likely to match BSP lower supported clubs, of which 10 away crowds were under 100 and a further 8 under 250, are likely to be Barnet, Macclesfield, Accrington, Morecambe, Bury and maybe Stockport (dependent on how their fans react if they struggle).

I agree with that and would expect teams to bring around; Northampton (expecting to do well) - 1200 Wycombe (again, expected to do well) - 1500 Aldershot - 1000 Port Vale & Gillingham, cant see them bringing more than 500 Bradford - Between 1000 and 1500 Hereford - 500 Cheltenham - 1000 And Southend could bring a decent amount. Sometimes when a club is in trouble, fans can really get behind a team

Bradford - Between 1000 and 1500 [/quote] Not sure it’s a long way for them to travel and although they have a large following is this not down to the cost of the season tickets? 800 tops.

I think no one has mentioned one of our biggest positives and that is our solid back line and keeper. Looking at the defence it looks very strong. Plenty of strength and height, also we have left and right backs that can play the ball forward. Also Clarkey is a very good keeper. All of this backed by good defensive and goal keeping coaches. I really don't think we will be shipping goals, just like we did last year.

Clarkey is indeed a very good keeper, and as a result, has the honour of being in my name But honestly, I'm not sure how we managed to hang on to him during the pre-season, if he's anything like as good as he was last season he could be snapped up for championship football soon (if we don't get there, of course). That would be a big loss. Also, when you've got players as higher quality as Franks, Worley and Kinniburgh on the bench, you must have a very strong team. My only real worries are Purkiss, who seems like a very average defender, and Eastwood, who may be able to pull off Clarkey style saves, but looks like he makes at one fundamental mistake a match.

Kerry lost to Down in the Quarters, season's over friends. Season is over. Good, did you surrender yet again ;D No. Completely outplayed by a superior Down side who showed their tradition attacking spirit and guile. No arguments at all. Good to see a competitive Down side this year. Tyrone lost to Dublin, so that makes it ok....

A few points however your glass is Positives - Numerous: Management – from KT and the new board to Wilder and new youth team coach Chrissy Allen, all seem to have that vital combination of professionalism and attachment to the club. Players – “young, athletic and hungry” are the buzz words. However, most of last seasons experience and continuity has also been retained. Doesn’t appear to be any deadwood. The Fans – loyal or mad this is no time for complacency. I expect only Bradford above us on the attendance tables. Negatives - Nitpicking: Changing all kits after only one season - Like the new designs or not, it is un-fan friendly. Too many trialists and a late arrival – Other than seeing Crockford against league opposition, I’d have stuck with those who went on the Scotland tour. Only one local player, an important component of any club - That Woodley is alone on the books means he is subject to more attention. I’d have liked a greater exploration of options closer to home (Andrew Gunn and the youth team) before Worley, Franks and Philliskirk. The ground – till the club own it we’ll never be free from Ka$$am Final positive thought - We’re out of that poxy league, Division 4 (sic) bring it on!
