I would say south-east
or just south, anything but midlands! as an Oxfordian I would take offence at the suggestion that Oxford is in the midlands.
The south midlands would be Birmingham area, north midlands being Derby, Notts etc

Birmingham is West Midlands. We are South Midlands. Remember the old bus company? Doesn't mean we can't also be South East and South West. Or according to the NHS, South Central. Definitely not Meridian though.
