Was thinking today whilst in traffic, what percentage of the population of England have a tattoo. I know there has been a real boom in the last 5 years and i would imagine the percentage would be surprisingly high. I personally dont have any and dont generally have anything against them, however it does make me wonder occasionally when you see an attractive woman with a monstrocity of tattoo on here back or where ever, what possesed them to do such a thing, bearing in mind they are notoriously difficult to remove. Would 40% be a fair estimate?

I would never of thought I would get one but back late last year I got Oxford United wrote in the top of my back. After saying that though 40% is a lot. Just thought about my friends and it's less than 10%.

Interesting,i would imagine the percentage of people between 18 and 30 of both sexes would be high,it seems the "in thing" nowadays,i remember when i was that age it was hardly talked about with just the odd friend maybe getting one. Here's an interesting statistic,i live in a close of 8 houses, there are 32 residents of which 16 are under the age of 15,yet out of the remaining 16,11 have tattoos. I think i need to take up a hobby or something, what a f**king boring post

I'm always of the opinion that they look really nice at the start but then the novelty wears off and your stuck with them for the rest of your life and they end up looking ridiculous. I keep trying to talk my mates out of them but they don't seem to listen. I'm not a fan.

some tattoos can look good, but they have to be subtle...its difficult to pull it off well

I got one across my shoulder blades around 4 years ago - 2 hours of pain, but strangely addictive.
The worst I ever saw was in West Bromwich (a dire place anyway). A 'large' woman was pushing her toddler in a push chair and she had a picture of her kid's full head tattooed on her upper arm.
It was a really bad image, but you could tell it was her kid.
WTF happens when your kid gets older? Strange decision!

Know a lad with "STOKE-ON-TRENT" tattooed across the back of his neck. It looks shite.

I'm pretty much against them, probably an age thing. But I like to think of the girl who had "Kelly Homes" tattooed on her back after the Olympics.

Think about 15% of the population (over 18's) have tattoo's, but between 18-35 year olds is most likely 25% - this is definately rising as tattoo industry is booming - I can think of at least 6 newly opened tattoists in Oxfordshire.
I always said I wouldn't have any but had small OUFC one on my leg, and as yelloexile said earlier in the thread they are definately addictive, I now have quite a few on my back, legs and includes a full sleeve which includes a potrait of my little lad (I think it looks ace contrary to what yelloexile thoughts are on portraits).
I completely understand why some people dislike tattoos and as my job is office based I always wear long sleeves, very conscious that they are not too everyones taste and that people look down at you when you have them.
I personally love mine and am thinking about getting the other arm done

I'm planning on getting a couple, where would people recomend me going, can access Oxford, Witney and Banbury easily. I'm guessing a few have had them on here so if you could recomend anywhere you've been that'd be good. I'll get s pic up of what I fancy getting once on a computer. Cheers in advance.

I do have a few home made ones and one proper one(small) i absolutely detest tattoos and got away lightly seeing all my mates had them, one thing about mine is they all actually mean summat...cant understand why people have tattoos of random things? i would have mine removed but cant be arsed to spend out on it...women with tattoos look naff and nasty....think about it before you go have one and remember...you will soon get bored of them.....DONT DO IT is what i say.
