Just looking at our overall squad there can't be many if any other teams that have the depth we have, especially in attack. I think this will be key as the seasons wears on, this has to be the best squad we have had in many years and I wouldn't swap with any other in league 2. This team is surely by far a better side than when we last topped this league under Ian Atkins...

The only unknowns are at centre-half with Sangare/Gaughan and whether they are really up to challenging for a start in the 1st team. I know very little about what they are like on the pitch, but hope both are capable should any injuries occur. Anyway, good luck to them both. Hopefully, one of the youth team/reserve team centre-halves is good enough to be pushing for a place as Henry Owen looked decent against Watford reserves at home even though we lost. I certainly wouldn't want to see us using Purkiss or Tonkin as cover as they aren't good enough aerially to do that, imo.
Other than that, I'm very happy with the squad and the depth.

Purkiss is half decent in the air.

Purkiss is half decent in the air. Disagree, isn't consistent enough or win enough in the air to be playing centre-back. Reads the game well defensively as a right-back and is a good tackler but aerially it isn't as crucial that he wins most of the aerial battles at right-back.

Mates with Henry Owen. He's had so many injuries in past couple seasons. And has been on loan at Banbury. And is out injured with serious knee injury again. He's 18. And is expecting to be let go in the Summer, when contract is up. We don't seem to have another centre back whose 17/18 comming thro youth team

Hopefully, he can get over the injury problems and forge a career for himself.

Its all very well saying we have atacking strength, but it is our defence that needs addressing. No clean sheet now for 20 games simply isn't good enough and that is why we wont make the play-offs and will finish mid table. Its all the more surprising when you consider that we have an international defender in Andy Melville as our defensive coach. There is obviously something wrong in defence, whether it is organisation or communication. I also think that Ryan is not quite as assured as he has been. He does tend to flap a bit at crosses and this uncertainty can only be detrimental to his defenders. But in response to the original post, yes we do have a very good squad that will only get better.

I disagree, I think the defence is strong enough. In the first 10 or so games of the season they kept plenty of clean sheets but then there were injuries/suspensions and partnerships suffered. Wright and Worley are very decent CB's, both young and learning still.
I think part of the reason we're conceding more than other teams is that our formation encourages attacking wing backs which can leave us a bit exposed, but I'd prefer to watch attacking, exciting football than 0-0's.
On a side note, does anyone know the situation with Cole, Gaughan, Woodley and Deering? There's no point keeping Cole on the wage bill if he isnt getting a sniff, and are the other three supposed to be youth players or back-up? I think Wilder would sooner get loans in than play them first team so why not loan them out.
