Batt or Maclaren. Batt made a mistake or two, but his forward running was absolutely fantastic. Their defence couldn't handle him. His crossing, too, was excellent, better than Purkiss'. The moment he was shut out in one direction, he'd head in the other, and all without the flair of Craddock aiding him as Tonkin had on the left (not to detract from a very good performance by Tonkin, but Craddock's unusual focus on wing play really helped him).
Maclaren, however, was faultless. Tackle after tackle, pass after pass, kept everything tidy, lovely first touch... and most crucially, his corner taking was fantastic. The range of corners he displayed was very impressive, for example, having kept forcing the keeper into tricky far-post decisions, he saw Clist unmarked at the near post on the edge of the box. He kept his corner low and right in front of Clist, who had the ball at an inch-perfect height for a volley. How he didn't score, I still don't know.

When they all play well as a team it's difficult to pick out any one player. I suppose Maclaren might have just shaded it, but a lot of otheres were close.

They were all stars. It was total domination. We could/should have had 8.

Tbh i think they all played very well, even the three subs did there bit. Hall had a stinking 10mins b4 comming off. But did well first half. He desperately needs a goal. Batt did very well but made a massive howler right at the end. Clarke didn't have nothing to do, bar making a great save. Would be harsh on the others to pick one out as the star player as they all played very very well.

I think McLaren made all the difference.
I though Josh Payne was good in possession and deistribution, but lacked a bit of level headedness and ability to control a game. McLaren has that ability to control a game. He was at the centre of everything good we did yesterday.

Maclaren was great but everyone played well. Yes Hall's concentration did appear to lapse a little second half but on current form I'd start with him over Heslop (something I wouldn't have advocated a couple of months ago).
The roof will come off when Asa gets his first goal at the Kassam!..I really look forward to a 20 yard blockbuster.

Maybe you might be better going to watch the game at the Kassam

McLaren immense.
Batt does seem at times to lose concentration and towards the end, his back pass nearly cost us. I thought he spent a lot more time in defence Saturday and we saw fewer surging runs up the wing.

>paulayres..looks like sihath was referring to Hall (in his head)?..
..mind you Josh was seen in possession...... of a carrier full of energy drinks and distributing them to the boys on the bench in exemplary fashion!

I didn't make myself clear.

Hopefully Josh will learn from Maclaren's play and experience and will become an even better player as a result.
