Champions League Final I believe. No fixtures may be played at Wembley 2 weeks prior to this game. Pathetic if you ask me.

Perhaps need to improve the defence... Exactly. If we could start keeping a few clean sheets i think we could be genuine playoff contenders, but at the moment we will drop points in games we otherwise could have got a result from because our leaky defence will let the opposition in.

We are on a great run. Its good to see.
If we can keep Maclean and keep that winning mentality then we are capable of anything.
Whether we are ready for promotion or not is another matter.

Without trying to make out our recent form isn't great, we are in a poor league which means we can by all means get in those Play Offs. Why not?

It would be a pain if the final is between two southern teams.

Whether we are ready for promotion or not is another matter. 2 When you say "ready for promotion" do you mean the team or the club infrastructure? You could make arguments for both I suppose. The playing staff at the moment are doing very well but I feel we would have to make substantial changes if it happened. The club itself is in a good place at the moment, I believe, but with the rent we pay at the moment I dont think we could afford to invest in the team and survive in League 1. We wont magically get another 5,000 or 6,000 through the door to allow us to invest in the club. Dont forget we are technically a club thats losing money as well. Deano & promotion offset some of those loses last year but we are drawing roughly the same crowds but with players that are likely on a better wage this season. Dont get me wrong. Im not being negative in the slightest. Back to back promotions would be an absolute dream, I just wonder whether or not we are geared up for it yet. Hopefully we will get to find out!

Thanks for the explanation yellowabingdon, all fair points and interpreted as constructive not negative.
My thoughts are that challenges that you've listed are all things that can be addressed and success breeds positive change that could even counter the financial obstacles. I think we have a real opportunity with the momentum we have and although I would have settled for mid-table at the start of the season, I don't think promotion is anything to be feared.

the attendances are surely higher.

the attendances are surely higher. They are but not significantly so when one considers the impact of the presumably higher wages we are now paying/will be expected to pay in the future. if we do achieve promotion and the crowds jump only by the same margin as they have this season the same will happen. It'd be interesting to consider what the impact of both the cash recieved from promotion itself, and the larger away attendances we would garner as a L1 club as well as the money from the TV apperances you seem to get if you play in L1. Doubt those would be enough to offset the losses we are making though.

Don't forget that as well as the average attendances being around 1200 per game better than last season at present the club also gets hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds per year in TV rights and other media deals only available to FL member clubs. I was talking to someone from the club when I was out in Witney the other month and they seemed to think that you're more than £800,000 better off in League Two than the Conference before a ball has even been kicked purely because of various licensing payments.

I know some people are happy to consolidate and are not sure if were good enough for league 1, quoting big teams such as Wednesday, charlton etc but don't forget 3 good teams will go up being replaced by maybe 3 big teams who are playing badly or are in financial trouble etc. And we only need to be better than 4 teams, not compete with the so called bigger teams! If the 4 clubs come down who are in the relegation zone now there will still be massive teams like Rochdale, Orient, Exeter & Carlisle plus the other 3 teams promoted from Div 2 to try and finish above!

I thought KT said we were budgeting for a £250k profit this season, and I'm sure our average league attendance (7,236 this season, 5,966 last season) is above what this was based on. We are also only talking about Division Three!
