What about record shops, Harlequin records, music market? remember the green bags? I remember Sunshine Records in Little Clarendon Street, and Garon in the covered market. I bought my first ever 12" singles from Sunshine Records: Richard Hell and the Voidoids and Talking Heads' Psycho Killer, after hearing them on John Peel.

Sunshine records in Little Clarendon street was a real goldmine for rare soul albums in the early 70's - I bought as 'new' import albums ( well, they were in stock) Bobby Hutton with 'Lend a Hand' on it, The Skullsnaps album, Gil Scott Heron 'Winter Over America' with the original drunken intro version of The Bottle... all big money album only tracks on the northern/rare soul scene.... still got em now Garron was always good for obscure early 70's jazz funk cut out albums both always worth a browse for hard to find vinyl

I thought the Wimpey was where KFC is now? might be wrong but why would ya put a burger joint in st Giles? Tis true... there was a Wimpey in St Giles where Oxfam bookshop is. It was AS WELL as the one in Cornmarket. There were also two municipal s, one in St Clements and one at Gloucester Green. As well as the Tonix, dont forget the Prince of Wales Check, or was it Cheque ? lol Cherry red and ox blood was the colour of the day. I remember asking in Figaros for them to "take it all off all over, and can I have a parting on the right". I still have the same haircut today (minus the parting, but its a DIY job (cheapskate)

Don't laugh - the first record I bought was Nutbush City Limits by Ike and Tina Turner! Then, wait for it...............Mandy by Barry 'the conk' Manillow...............don't ask! I made up for it by buying a Mott The Hoople LP.

I think I'm about to leave myself open to ridicule (wouldn't have it any other way), but I have a confession to make. In 1973, at the New Theatre, I went with my mates to see...................(I'm hesitating, here)...............Gary 'Thank heaven for little girls' Glitter! Youngsters today shudder when you say his name, but in the Seventies, he was a young man's hero! Didn't see that one coming, did we? That night, all you could hear, were girls screaming! It was like being on a pig farm with all the sqealing!

Wasn't the Potato place on Cowley Road called something like Monro's? and wasn't there a punk shop there in the late 70's called Razors? and the Carribean club on Cowley road before going behind the Westgate? roots club south Oxford? Razors I knew of was in George St,bought a crombie there around 79/80,for £25,which was expensive for a 15yr old! Used to go in the Carribean Club when it was behind the Westgate/Paradise Square?Few cans of Red Stripe and a fish pattie and some quality dub, good times.. Three Music Markets at one time i think? Most saturdays I would go and buy some punk 7"(didnt start going to football regularily til 83 ) I used to hang around in the Music Market (upstairs next to boswells,as well as Bond Sq) most Saturdays pretending to look at the records while listening to all the 2 Tone, Ska, Punk and alternative they used to play....I can remember it had a fantastic atmosphere up there...I must admit to nicking a few SLF record sleaves while I was there...luckly TVP couldn't ask for my mobile number at the time because the only mobiles around then were things that hung over babies cots

The only thing I've ever nicked is my skin whilst shaving! The best single I ever bought was by the Alberto's. It was called F*ck You. The flip side was called Thank you.

Good memories. Monroe’s baked potatoes on The Cowley Road The sign was made of very thin pieces of black painted wood. MONROE’S was spelt out in capital letters and for a while the forward stroke of the R was broken of as was the bottom stroke of the E, girlfriend at the time called it 'Monpofs'
Remember Rob Ryan from Razors very well, went there when I was still living out in Burford around ‘79 Was Omni the place opposite the New Theatre and if so what was the place that opened later down the end where the Four Candles is now The Cowley Road one was later ‘81? and sold a mix of New Romantic and Rock ‘a’ Billy gear, Sarge I recall the hand painted shirts! didn’t know he had a shop in London. Rob was a big influence on the ‘scene’ in Oxford running The Voodo club at The Rio in Didcot and later at The Coven. Hea also went on to host Oxford's first 'Acid house' night 'Lust' at Boodles.

Is it me, or has music today lost its identity? I mean, in the past, you had the Teds, Greasers, Punks, Modern Romantics, Acid, House etc. What is the fashionable music listened today called? I know; a re-hash of old songs! Going back to football; not too long ago, we had a part of the game called the shoulder barge. Perfectly legal. Today, if a player sidles up to another, there are screams of blue bluddy murder from the crowd. Why was that aspect of the game removed?

Do you remember me giving you a white P200 Vespa that I had been the proud owner of for about 2 hours and got tired pushing it home.I always stuck to Lambrettas after that as they were easier to push.

Bobby Ryan now alledgedly lives in either Switzerland with a Swedish girlfriend or Sweden with a Swiss girlfriend,I cant remember which and also Ernie Reed(Irish) who I havent seen since he left for Brighton to finish his open university degree in sociology with his Thai wife Djin( my guess at spelling) and son William supposed to be running a bar in Thailand the in place for retired football hooligans. We called him Irish because he hated it and them and would never tire of telling me his name was Ernie. He was a great friend but our outings wether it was Oxford,West Ham,England or even scooter runs always seem to end in fights and run ins with the law
