I know there were problems with magnets and CRT. My grandchild is well into magnets, does this affect LCD. He is the type of kid who would test the tv to see if it's magnetic and we would like to buy him a magnetic pressie without destroying the TV

If you put a magnet near or on an old style TV it would distort the colours permanently. Is this the same with new flat sceens. I have a magnet but dont want to try it.

Nah it wouldn't
CRTs worked by beaming green/red/blue colours onto the screen thing and magnets pulled the colour thing about or something.
Liquid crystal isn't magnetic whereas the Cathode Ray Tube beams are bent by magnetic deflection, a varying magnetic field generated by coils and driven by electronic circuits around the neck of the tube. *
*stole that from Wiki to explain better.
