How do you think football will have developed in 20/30 years from now? Maybe there will be no football anymore- Banned or imploded financially?? If Football does still exist decades from now maybe the rules will change significantly too?
Perhaps we will see it changed to a 'non contact' Sport- A bit like in a Leonard Rossiter comedy some time back?!!
All the players might wear protective clothing -including helmets as in American Soccer?!
The referees will still not know what they are doing though, that's certain! ;D

I can imagine a game where people are so desperate for a bit of technology and FIFA ends up going mad and cutting out officials altogether.
So there would be a ref in the middle and linesmen and other things woudl be controlled in a review box. Then all major decisions could be made correct but the game speed decreasing rapidly.
Not saying I want it, but I can see it becoming a bit like rugby.

I’ll risk some self-quoting. Premier League clubs will someday soon withdraw from the League Cup and Europa League and instead create their own overseas cup – A bold prediction, but not unthinkable. Basically there will be fewer competitions than now but more games played in other countries. The League Trophy will go in addition to the two previously mentioned. The top clubs will be even more remote, viewing themselves as global corporations with international customers rather than as focal points of their locality.

Bet they still won't have brought in goal line technology!

Was reading a supplement within sky magazine that suggested the pitches would be made from this special opitical fibre/grass material that allowed them to show yardage from goal, the offside line, percentage possession etc as you see on sky but right there on the pitch.
I can see that, but the basics of the game will remain the same.
Its survived two world wars so I'm sure it will last for many many years to come yet...

1. Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and maybe Liverpool will resign from the Premier League and join a lucrative European super League. Shortly after a European Super League 2 will form with the likes of Spurs, Everton, Villa etc joining. 2. The ball will be made from Yak leather, and filled with part air/part helium to 'help' the aerodynamics. 3. FIFA will have over 350 members including the nations of Greenland, Falkland Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Antarctica and Cornwall! 4. England's manager will be from Burkina Faso. 5. Teams will have 'time outs' 6. Rolling substitutions - a bit like Ice Hockey and American Football. A club will for example have a dedicated person on the bench who's only job is to take free kicks or penalties. 7. Referees WILL BE MUCH better because human cloning will be in full swing, and all referee's will be cyborg clones of Pierluigi Colina. 8. All League teams will have American style nicknames. Oxford Utd will be nicknamed something like The Oxford 93ers (after the year they were foundsed). 9. Football Conference administrators will still not have discovered the wonders of 'e-mail' 10. England still won't have won a f**king major trophy!

Maybe hopefully after years of trying they will finally give up and drop into oblivion

20/30 years is a hell of a long time with the strides in new technology speeding up,i will predict that in 30 years there will be a league based on computer technology (fifa 11 etc) where people will play the game from their front room,it will start years before as a amateur past time and will eventually go proffessional with people subscribing to watch the best in the world battle it out from their tv screens.of course you will be unable to tell the difference between real players and computer generated ones...thats a cert if you see how good graphics are even now. then again Iran or some other nutjob country going nuclear will put paid to my idea

I think there are plenty of people now who already are unable to differentiate between reality and Cyber Space!

seriously, I doubt the actual game will change much but these would be my predictions:
1) Technology introduced to aid refereeing decisions 2) European league 3) Premier league bubble will burst, clubs will go bankrupt and top players will head elsewhere
