Anyone else seen some Oxford buses that can operate pedestrian crossings by a remote device?
I refer to the number 15 bus that goes between the town centre and Woodfarm, when the bus in question is turning right out of Girdlestone Rd onto Windmill Rd there is often heavy traffic in both directions- so the driver remotely operates the Pedestrian crossing to enable him to pull out!
I have only seen bus drivers with this facility, why can't the general public have one?!

Is this true? Bus drivers controlling pedestrian crossings? Yes, it's not a wind up! If you look above the drivers side window there's a domed whatsit, that's the aparartus i believe.

Emergency vehicles have been able to invoke "signal priority" (for obvious reasons) for some time; it seems a logical development to extend something similar to mass transit systems.....

Interestingly some buses are fitted with cameras with the intention of photographing offenders following them in the bus lanes. All well and good but what happens when you get a stationery vehicle in front of you and you have to use the bus lane

But how can the bus pull out if there is line of traffic stopped at the lights (coming from headington) blocking his way? Watch and learn!! At the end of Girdlestone Rd the bus turns right towards Woodfarm, and usually creeps onto the 'Clear Zone' left erm clear by other traffic to an from Headington!
