Very harsh. Won 6 of the last 7. 6 of the last 7! oh p-lease! how many against Bangladesh? and the worst Pakistan side in their history! The guy is tactically naive and it will show against the Aussies in the winter mark my words... Gramp's. I know you will correct me if these facts are wrong but was it not only 369 days ago AS captained the England team who reclaimed the ashes. He also top score in the series. Not bad for someone who's as bad as you think they are.

Oh dear, oh dear in replying to a post by Gramp's we have lost 3 wickets. When I starting writing it was 39-2 now it's 47-5. Strauss out ;-)

47 for 5. What the hell is going on. I notice KP is carrying on where he left off - with a golden duck. When it comes to the Aussies, we are going to need four seamers as well as Swann as the spinner so KP is going to have to be the one to make way - he is the weak link out of Trott, Collingwood, Morgan and himself at the moment I'm afraid to say.

Not bad for someone who's as bad as you think they are. We also drew in South Africa, always a good result - despite the fact that they have one of their best teams ever. Don't think there's much evidence that our struggles are Strauss' fault. His responsibilities are in the field - and we've been absolutely fine in that regard. The problem this summer is pretty easy to diagnose - five of our top six are woefully, woefully out of nick with the bat and have been ever since Bangladesh left (I'm excluding Trott here - and even that is slightly generous as he hasn't made a big score, although he has been dogged and consistent). None of Strauss, Cook, Pietersen, Collingwood or Morgan averages above 30 for the series. And in Test cricket, that's just not going to get it done. Problem is - how exactly are they going to find some form before we head off to Oz? Hmmmm...... On a more positive note - Mohammad Amir is a brilliant bowler and this is a hell of a spell.

edgecam - yes Strauss did a decent job against the Aussies i'll grant you but my opinion of his captaincy is over a lengthy period. I do not feel he has improved and especially in this series. At the Oval he wins the toss and elects to bat despite the overcast conditions which would have been ideal for Jimmy and Finn. They had already been routed 4 times in the series and it was an ideal opportunity to put them under more pressure. i'm 99% sure Michael Vaughan would've put them in as he was ruthless and always looked to expose the oppositions weakness. Then on the 4th day when we still had 140 odd runs to play with he sets his field to give easy singles and practically gifted Pakistan the first 50 runs. He applied no pressure at all. Hence my 'tactically naive' observation.
Tony W - yes we did draw in South Africa and in my opinion Strauss once again gifted the opposition the chance to draw in the final test by opting to bat on Day 1 on a difficult track. Bearing in mind they needed 20 wickets to tie the series he should have put them in thus taking considerable more time out of the game for SA to take them.

Whilst I am not a great fan of Strauss as captain, I seem to remember that when the coin toss was done, it was bright and sunny. It clouded over in the time between the toss and the start. The commentators remarked on this (at great length!) at the time. Looks like we might get to 100 now... we are on 97/5 as I type. Surely even England can scrape 3 runs with 5 wickets!

When the fifth wicket went down I didn't think we'd get 97 in total! I felt the same but with a 50 and counting partnership from Trott and Prior who knows. Maybe just maybe we could get to a half decent score. Ok I'll take my head out of the sand.

The trouble with England batsman is they don't play enough 4 day cricket. I bet our top 6 have played no more than 50 1st class innings away from test this season...

Especially KP. I think KP as an attacking player is better suited to limited overs cricket. That's not to say test cricket is beyond him because he has proved his ability before. He needs managing though because he lacks confidence and doesn't even have a county at the moment.
