A thread about 'wasting the day' on an active forum at 1pm on a Friday.
The irony! :-)

Ive been cleaning a county council building during the weekdays. And I must admit its an absolute joke. They do nothing from what I can see (I only do one department) and when it gets to 5 the majority sit there until 6:30 - 7 adding the time on for flexi time on a friday.
Theres one I call the "pig" she really is a disgrace sits there pretty much in her own filth until 6:45 then waddles off to the khazi before falling into her car to go home. Because she works so "hard" and stays until 6:30ish she only does until lunch time on a friday.
Anyway I suppose I am slightly biased cleaning up after them. But the "pig" truly is disgusting.

I love the line:-
Knox D'Arcy, who carried out the research, claimed that if all councils improved their staff utilisation rates from 32% to the private sector's 44% the same amount of work could be done with 500,000 fewer staff.
With David Cameron planning on cutting jobs in the public sector, this sends out a VERY CLEAR MESSAGE - If you want to keep your job, stop Working hard, and Start Playing FreeCell instead! ;D ;D

I can already hear the Minesweeper competitons being announced in their offices this evening.

I totally agree with this. When I was younger doing my degree, I did some work experience at a county council. Now we are going back a few years, to the day when they still smoked in the office's but I have never seen such a bunch of lazy bastards. They did so little work, they had a fat women who wouldnt type as she had a hand injury from too much typing. I hardly ever saw anyone as they would be in "meetings"....
A lot of the civil service employs people that wouldnt stand a chance in the Private Sector.

Some cruel and largely unjustified stereotyping of Council Staff. In just about any large Organisation there are or have been a proportion of work shy employees, the Motor Industry of the seventies for example. The majority of present day Council Staff from my experience are skilled or semi-skilled, hard working efficient people. So to tarnish everybody with the same brush is unfair and wrong.
The City Council has a 'Better Homes' Standard target to reach (Set by Central Government) and is on course to achieving that by 2012. On many local Estates (not all, yet.) the Council owned Housing stock is more often than not far better maintained than the Privately Owned/rented sector. Which is imo testament to the hard work of Council employees.
