Im thinking of going to an American College football game at the Pasadena Rose Bowl (UCLA v Standford). Anyone ever been to any of this muck? Ive always seen it on tv, Stephen Fry documentaries, movies and am rather excited about how stupendous it all looks.
Any ex pats based in yankeeland who can impart more knowledge?

The buzz is awesome mate, i went and saw UNC V Duke last year when i was in North Carolina its like the big Derby game, massive rivials and was great. 60,000 people at a College game, the scale of NCAA blows even the Premiership out the window, until you experience it you wont believe it. I wish school and COllege life was like that over here.

Anything college-based is much better than the real professional thing IMHO. Years ago I went to watch college basketball and a match between some San Fran side and an LA team and the atmosphere was unreal. Just could not believe it and the battle on the court was manic to the end. Never got into basketball at all but that was amazing. The college football looks on the same wavelength in terms of craziness so go for it!

college football is absolutely mint! matches are quality because the players do anything to score. expect to see some epic trick-plays/hail mary's etc fans are unreal. as someone above quoted it's premiership if not better crowds, most of whom plan on getting drunk. it's just a great experience

Well, I'm going to go against the grain a little bit.
On the one hand - I agree with everyone else that the atmosphere at a college football game trumps anything else in US sports. The fans are complete mentalists, who turn up in obscene numbers to ridiculously-sized stadia and tend to work very hard on having a very good time.
On the other hand, in comparison to the NFL, the standard is crap.
But if you're not an NFL afficionado, you probably won't notice so it's all good!

Atmosphere is immense, make sure you tailgate pre match there is nothing like it!
Atmospher is crazy, people will do anything for there team! Chants are rudimentary though and don't expect to here much more then, DE-FENCE and the like.
Cheerleaders are fit too
Game can be much more highscoring then NFL as college rules are more favourable to the offensive team
Definately an experience i'd recommend!
