Hypothetically speaking, if King pitched up at Grenoble Road (he won't because he's too good a striker) after doing a stretch for sexual violence what would your reaction be?
The rumour is, having been released from HM Prison today, King will sign for Coventry City very soon.
Incidently King has apparently got a string of convictions as long as your arm. He's bad news.
Should he just walk back into football on what will be a huge salary compared to what the vast majority of people earn?
Personally speaking if King signed for Oxford I would hand back my season ticket.

Why would you? He's obviously talented. If he does the business on the pitch, thats what matters isn't it? Football will be his job. So any convict can't go out and get a job he's talented at then, just cos he has few months behind bars?. You don't want Chappers back then? If he did join OUFC, banged in 20goals. I'd be delighted.

King is on the Sex Offenders list - big difference.
King beat the sh!t out of a young woman and sexually assaulted her.
We're a family club - no thanks.

I wouldn't necessarily hand back my season ticket, primarily because i don't have one.....but i wouldn't wantthat type of pleyer at my club. Chappers situation is different, he accepted he was at fault but King is a woman beater who didn't accept responsibility for his actions

Rix was a huge mistake on Ka££ams's part.
Therein lies a big problem with King. Him being on the sex offenders register means huge problems for a football club with almost round the clock supervision being required because he will undoubtedly be around under 18 year olds etc.
Incidently how many second chances does King need?
I don't think he should be allowed to just walk back into the professional game after what he has done.

There are key differences between King and Chapman, as SO pointed out. I would add that King did something very wrong (philosophically, a sin of 'commission'); Chapman - as far as I know - failed to do something he should have done, namely take proper care of his driving, and although this had terrible consequences, it was a 'sin of omission', and therefore morally less wicked.
Any club offering King a contract would have to gauge the impact on the dressing room, and on the image of the club. King should not be banned from signing for a club, but I would hope that clubs would simply choose not to sign him. I would therefore hope, that in the remote chance that he pitched up at Grenoble Road, we would choose not to sign him.

Surely the bigger question is why he has been released already? A guy with a previous record who is obviously a nasty piece of work gets out 9 months into an 18 month sentence, where is the justice in that?

No I wouldn't want the likes of Marlon King at this club,. People make comparisons with Chappers, but it's not the same, and here's why. Adam Chapman made one mistake (albeit with tragic consequences), and has admitted his guilt, accepted reponsibility for his actions, taken his punishment without complaint, and will probably come out of a prison a better man. Marlon King is a repeat offender who goes round town like Billy-Big-Bollocks because he's a professional footballer and a millionaire, thinking he can click his fingers and women will fall at his knees. He is a tw*t of the highest order, and I wouldn't be surprised if he does another stretch in the slammer before he retires from the game. This link shows what a nasty piece of work he is:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlon_King#Incidents_and_legal_cases

As someone who supported the clubs handling of Chapman, would have extended Crockfords trial and been in favour of signing him if Wilder had wanted to, my reaction would include the withdrawal of spending power on tickets and merchandise if King was signed.
The differences are not issues of their crimes – all three did wrong, were found guilty and sentenced according to the law – but of rehabilitation.
Having failed to show remorse in denying the charges and a history of repeat offences, King either can’t or won’t change. Final issue is not one of morals but business. A twenty year-old who can turn his life around and perform has a sale value, King is 30 and past his best.
King should not be denied the right to work, but I hope nobody signs him.

If the Marlon King tried to sign for Oxford, any fan who didn't want him would be an absolute idiot. The guy was playing in the Premiership for heavens sake - keep him fit and he'd win us the league. Having said that, if I was a fan of a club where he'd just be an average player - a Wycombe or Hull, say - then I wouldn't want him at my club due to what he has done.

I think he'd muck up a great team spirit and I wonder if Ryan Crockford (is that right?) was discarded for potentially the same reason.

It would be tempting to have such a quality striker in the club, but there is a limit and I think King went beyond that limit.
