With all the new signings CW has made it seems to me that some of last seasons players are really putting in good performances in this pre-season, probably fearing the worse. Bully looked like a man posessed against Leicester ,(was my MOTM) The Beast looked 2 stone lighter and looked fast(er) as well Batty plays like he's got loads more confidence now Matt Green also looks even more impressive.
What do you lot reacon?

What do you lot reacon? Batt and Bully looked great against Leicester i am sure we will see a number of last season’s team step up as you indicated due to competition. I believe we have almost got two full 11 a side teams.

Creighton needs to up the ante as his performances haven't been great. He now has Franks and Worley breathing down his neck.
Midson needs to up the ante too or he risks being released in January imo.

Jack Midson's my only concern really. He has his good points- like he holds the ball up well waiting for others to come in to play. But the amount of 'easy' goal-scoring oppertunities he squanders is for me , a major concern.

However I don't think Midson gets a good amount of 'easy gaol scoring ops'. I'm not even sure i'd count when he hit the post in the final as 'easy'. Maybe i'm biased in his favour but he's a good finisher.

But he's a centre forward, and needs to score more goals. Matt Green gives more to the team than Midson in my opinion. And i'm not sure if Midson is rele that great of a finisher, missed some very easy chances in second half of season. I like him, but with Beano obviously starting in middle of front three, i think i'd prefer Green, Cole, Deering and Potter to be playing either side before Midson

It would be a real shame to lose Midson as an option, he's really a great player. He has great passing ability, and does one thing that not one other player has proven they can do consistently, and that's hold the ball up. Beano always looks for link-ups, Green always looks to take players on, Deering will always pass or run as a first option... I could go on. At Wembley, Midson was vital, as when he held the ball up, it allowed Green and Beano into a front 2. With that kind of set-up, Oxford WILL score enough goals. However, Midson needs to score as well. Maybe using him as a penalty taker (I'm sure we'll get a few) will encourage him to be less shot-shy elsewhere, I'm not sure, but it seems to me he lacks confidence right now, something which won't be helped by loaning him out during the season.

I think the main player we have to worry about for the burton game is Mark Creighton, in the majority of the games last season, his defending policy completely consisted of just collect the ball and hoof it each time as far away from him as possible, he rarely had the ability to hold onto the ball like Jake Wright or Harry Worley does and run with it or distribute some nice short passes. Plus, in a few of the friendlies so far this pre-season he has yet again looked slow and off the pace, struggling to cope with quicker forwards, perfect example was the man utd game where he gave away the penalty. It worries me that his lack of pace could cost us in a better league this season.
