Based on the pre-season matches so far, we seem to be playing good football creating chances BUT not sticking them in the Onion Sack. With 23 players (by my bad calculations!) signed on and CW saying that we will have a squad of 21/22 for the season, I am a bit concerned that the goalscoring options do not look too good and that if we were to bring in another striker, someone may have to leave. I hope that it all comes good on the night and Green, Midson et al. start sticking them away to support Beano.

I agree ovaltoyou I think we definitely need another striker. I would be a little concerned if we don't get one. Also a you are right about the squad it does seem a little larger than planned and is there money left to get in a finisher?

Clarke Eastwood Purkiss, Batt, Creighton, Worley, Franks, Wright, Kinniburgh, Tonkin, Day Bulman, Baker, Clist, Hall, Heslop, Cole, Deering, Potter Constable, Midson, Green and Woodley But do Franks and Baker counts as one? And does Woodley count as one also?

i know everybodys saying that woodley is going to be a serious part of the squad this year. but i still want to see another striker come in to the team. also i think it might be a slight problem that none of our forwards have any real experience of league football.

I think Woodley is one for the future, to be eased slowly into the side (which I'm sure Wilder will do), and not thrown into an extended run should we (god forbid) get a injury to one of the strikers. So on that I also think we need another striker wether permanently or on loan

Personally I don't think Midson is good enough, I hope i'm proved wrong but I can see him being farmed out on loan....

Would like to see another forward and maybe a midfielder who can play centrally or out wide. The midfielder would depend on how long Clist is out, unless CW thinks one of the current squad can cover. Could also be cover for Baker, unless he is expected back very soon.

He showed that at Histon when he scored over 20 goals. He just needs to find that goalscoring form for us and he'll be fine!

I agree, it was no coincidence the return of midson and chapman was the turning point for us last season. Midsons ability to keep the ball, pick a pass, win it in the air and generally do the simple things well helped the team play well. His problem will be if the team arnt winning and he isnt scoring then what he does well is worthless. Would be nice to see him up front with Beano in a proper partnership rather than stuck out on the left. He may also have a role to play in tiring the oppositions full back so that Mitchell Cole can run him ragged in the last 20-30 minutes.

Some of us are not very "lateral thinking" tonight are we.
It's true to say that Beano is the main man - and will probably get around 20 goals again, but we are not on this planet if we think Wilder is after another 20 goal a season man!
Goals from Midfield - Clisty, Heslop and Hall will be expected to contribute. In all honesty only Clisty really showed for us last season from midfield.
Upfront - Beano is likely to get in the 20's, and Greeny / Midson will be expected to hit double figures per man.
+ Its all too easy to forget Alfie, LSD and Mitchell Cole are likely to chip in as well.
Realistically, I can see 75 goals between the players mentioned above, and I'm gonna stick my chin out and say that will get us into the play offs.

Indeed, we have some very attacking midfield players, I also think that we will create a lot more from set pieces with Heslop providing much better service to the likes of the Beast, Worley & Wright.
