There are a whole number of reasons why a woman should not be involved in officiating football games. Physically and emotionally are two stand out reasons. From world record holders down to school kids males are quicker than females and a female is far more likely to crumble under a torrent of abuse from a typically thuggish, bullish hoard of modern day footballers. Most male referees would have played the game too and that will give them a better insight into a lot of decision making. Good referees will interpret certain situations and that will only come from having played the game, even at village level. What's more it's a predominantly male game, certainly professionally, and why tinker with how the games been run for over one hundred years ? Women can stick their head in a rule book but it goes deeper than that. The PC brigade won't like these comments but I'm afraid it's a fact and female referees are an accident waiting to happen. Baldy you're on a hiding to nothing here lad. Its OK to back down once in a while you know. You don't have to spout ridiculous drivel to support a point you don't really believe in just because you see climbing down as a sign of weakness. I've never heard such a pile of absolute bollocks as that heap you just posted. seems like hes the new brownlie

I think, five female officials in 140 years of football.
If they're that good, why ?

I will get support on this.
I say what others only think.
If Oxford are playing in a crucial fixture I would want an experienced male official every single time as opposed to a 25 year old female. Call me a bigot, call me what you like but if any of you were being brutally honest you would be saying the same thing.

I'm saying that because I can't believe even you are as big a tw#t as your comments suggest.

This is nothing to do with being a 'bigger man'. Give me a bit of respect.
I'm a 46 year old family man, my days of trying to boost my ego are a bit behind me !

I would much rather the worst incompetent male official we saw in the Blue Square Premier than a competent female.
I would rather have an atrocious assistant referee with meat and two veg in his shorts, than a woman who gets the calls right - like Sian Massey.
Women should know their place. There's a rumour that they may be given the vote soon. Can't see it happening myself.

As for a world cup final, forget it. Won't happen in thenext 100 years.

Baldy is slowly turning into Moobs now and as such I'll leave this 'debate' here as it's pointless debating with someone unwilling to accept they may be wrong. Forums can be ruined by individuals who make statements based on creating an argument rather than thoughtout debate. Let's hope the new forum doesn't go the same way as this on or we'll continue to see a decline in the number of posters and the minority take over.

Two stupid and pathetic replies.
It's up to you whether you believe me or not, I'm not fussed either way, but I post what I think and have not ONCE made a post (must be 10,000 across Oxford forums) where I don't genuinely believe in it's content.

Do any of you really think these up and coming female refs will get an Old Firm, Man U v Liverpool or,say, European cup final this next season or the one after ? I'll have £1000.00 for the 12th man with any one who wants it.
Not a chance in hell of it happening.

are you talking this season or the next one or the next 25 years
THis season or the next one- probably not- as long as the Keys/Gray attitudes that are all too prevalent in football are around -especailly when they think the microphones are switched off.
Next 25 years a certainty.
When those women referees do take control of a major game they will be judged on how well they do the job. And lets hope the people who don't respect their authority get the red card -on and off the pitch.

On the basis of popular predjudice. the fact that she got a decision right that i, the commentators and thousands of other people got wrong, is irrelevant.

I can't believe you are getting off because she got a call right. What does that prove ?
I would expect her to get eyesight decisions correct, a kid could do that. I'm more on about her ability to control a tempestuous derby in a white hot atmosphere with players brawling, managers out of control on the touchline and an intoxicated crowd spilling onto the pitch. If you believe that a 25 year old girl could cope with that and remain in total control then you are off your rockers - the lot of you.
Give me Howard Webb any day.
