Good to hear he should be available on Tues.
He offers something different and would have been a good option to have available today. He had a big impact as sub at Torquay and could have made the difference today.

His final ball is, more often than not, woeful. Tricks and flicks in unthreatening areas don't really convince me. He has to show much more to warrant a starting place.

Interesting baldy.
I understand your point. But I think Potter compensates for his weaknesses by getting around it.
He doesn't cross it as much as he cuts into the box and tries to put the ball in from close.
I wouldn't say all of his tricks and flicks are in unthreatening areas - Morcambe game for example.
Yes he does have much more to show for a starting place - still brilliant for coming on and scaring tired legs IMO though.

i think your being a bit harsh on him baldy i can recall his final ball getting jack his hat trick and also his final ball setting up beanos hat trick, yeh his final ball needs to be worked on but like everyone gives kinni the benefit of age then the same should be given to alfie theres no doubt he changes the tempo of out play when his on

Baldy, do you sit at the back of the SSU? If not then there's a bloke who does who thinks exactly the same as you. Always moaning that Alfie is off down a blind alley. Funny thing happen a few games ago (can't remember who we were playing) when Alfie was off on another run. "Bloody hell Potter, where are you off to now, another blind alley", just then Alfie played an exceptional through ball to Craddock (I think) who then went and scored. I agree that often he doesn't deliver "the final ball" but at 4th division level that will happen. We have players who can, when on the kind of form they are capable of, murder teams (Brizzle Rovers, Bradford) BUT they are at this level because they can't/don't do it every week.

No I don't, I'm in SSL and I'm not the sort of fan who slags our players off from the stands. I take your point about why they are at this level but you can give that tag to every single one of them but the majority of the team are learning and learning quickly. Potter is exciting to watch, I enjoy the mazy runs and turn of pace but there has to be end product to everything on a football field for it to come together and I think, too often, Alfie doesn 't pick out the yellow shirt or play the right ball.
Of course you can't expect it, at this level, week in week out but I do think he's got the game that gets himself into some great positions but spoils it with that final ball.

He's the kind of player that gets people off their seats. I agree that he needs to improve on his final ball. I know you won;t like the comparison, but think Theo Walcott. This season Walcott has improved his final ball and is in double figures (I think) for goals. Alfie is only young and is still learning. My non Oxford-supporting mates were very impressed with Sammy D at Thame on Tuesday night (admittedly against lowly opposition). One comment was, "If he's not getting in the side you must have plenty of creativity". His final ball was very good, created a lot of our chances and was always available to receive a pass.

It's Wilder's fault for not telling him where the blind alleys are

That's harsh! Potter is a key squad player for the team, plus let's not forgot he sealed our route back into the football league! Short memories!
As for a poor final ball in, did any of you lot go yesterday? Deering gets round the back of the Northampton defence a couple of yards out from the six yard box, just needs to square it for an un-marked Mclean whose on the penalty spot, but hits the first man instead. That would've been 2-2.
