Yeah but why? What's the problem with this one exactly?

ESB doesn't 'own' the forum.
If the forum goes 'down' (not sure how it can go down. If proboards goes down then we lose both forums anyway... Unsure of how but ESB seems to know)

"IF" it's lost, does it matter? I'm sure we would regroup in this unlikely event - and it would be in the interests of ProBoards to help.

What is the likelyhood of it going down? i would confidently guess at hardly ever and even then they wouldn't lose any data unless there was a serious issue like the data center blew up which will never happen

What about moving - at virtually zero inconvenience to anyone - and ensuring there is definitely no problem?

What about moving - at virtually zero inconvenience to anyone - and ensuring there is definitely no problem? look im not bothered eitherway, im more of a reader than a poster on these boards but i just thought i should point out that there is no need to panic and make quick decisions when the risk is incredibly low. Remember what the mail did when they suddenly shut the old site down? why dont we give more time for people to respond with their opinions. We are moving on monday and only 133 people have signed up to the new one so far. just wait till the majority of people are ready to go. if there is some disaster and this site is down then its pretty likely that the new one will be too, its all hosted in the same place. If someone can hack this one then they can hack the new one. We seem to be worried about losing previous posts in those circumstances yet we are now doing that to ourselves anyway.

No-one's panicking. ESB is sensibly minimising risk. The risk is not hacking or some "disaster" as you put it, it's that ESB can't control the current board because the original registered owner has disappeared. This bears no resemblance to the Ox Mail fiasco, where they changed the look and feel of the board. The new Yellows forum will be exactly like this one.
Currently 204 have transferred to the new site, but you wouldn't know that if you can't be bothered to register. 204 out of 5-600 reasonably regular users, so a good start.
Your view is based on incorrect information and a lack of understanding of the situation.

I can see why proboards won't help and I don't know the situation with the previous owner (ill?) But isn't it just a case him sending an email? I may be speaking out of line there and sure you have already pursued this already. I do agree that we shouldn't be on an orphaned site, so if there really is no other way forward...

Chili - this wasn't a spur of the moment decision, trust me, I'd been thinking this over for the past few months.
YH you hit the nail on the head.

Personally... I'd have like the move to have been planned in greater detail, and perhaps away form ProBoards... I don't see why ProBoards should make money out of this, rather than Oxford United.
I'm thinking that there will be another move sooner, rather than later.

I'm thinking that there will be another move sooner, rather than later. Please explain. A more detailed planning was not possible. This is not a rush decision or a rush job. But then this forum is not a democracy iether, it is esb property, which he funds and allows all members to use free of costs. But how can Oxford United benefit? Oxford don't run any servers, Yellow Player is run by another company that gets any advertising benefits there may be. Ad what on earth makes you think that another move is coming?
