What a fan divider!
Some think he's the worst player - garbage. Others think he was great and unused.
Sounds a bit like a Midson or a Craddock - but Craddock surely must have proved his class by now.

Well all i can say it makes a pleasant change. For what seemed like about 10 years we had players who under-performed for us before going on to have decent careers and playing well for their future clubs. Our own experience should suggest its maybe the environment in & around the club that doesn't bring out the best in players.

Sounds like he doesn't fit their style of play and that he was bought to be something he isn't.
He isn't the goal machine they wanted him to be, and with us that is not his role. We are lucky to have two good strikers in Craddock and Beano who are there to bang in the goals. this allows Maclean to fulfil of provider and removes the burden on him of having to score.
Also its sounds like out formation and style of play suits him better than Plymouth's.
Just goes to show one man's rubbish is another man's gold.

It looks to me like they signed Maclean as a goalscorer after his 20 goals for scunny. As some of them have said, he's good at holding it up and bringing others into the game. He's a very clever player when a team plays it on the deck and he's showed this during his time here. It sounds to me like plymouth play more direct football which requires working alot harder, and they need a goalscorer that is prepared to work hard - someone who plays like Beano but with league 1 experience. This is probably why there's mixed opinions, we play to his strengths and have seen his quality, they don't suit his style of play so he would never hit form. He probably turned lazy after getting fed up of chasing down loose balls and feeding on scraps. He's a great player and he could just return to haunt plymouth next season when he scores the winner in the 90th minute and we win 2-1

The mixed opinions do not surprise me
Football supporters, broadly, fall into 2 categories
First there is the bunch who think you win matches by running about a lot, shouting, playing for the shirt and showing passion. These are the same people who reckon that if everyone in the crowd is not showing passion, then defenders switch off at a set piece and let a goal in
The rest recognise that keeping shape and the ball is more important. That a lack of pcae doesn't mean a lack of effort. They also recognise class players when they see one, eg one who has a mili second longer on the ball thatn anyone else on the pitch. Craddock and Maclean for example

Fuck Plymouth, their loss is our gain.
If they think he's rubbish we can have him for nothing, everyone's a winner....

Maclean is brilliant with his back to goal. The perfect player to lead the line and does what Beano can't, which means we can play to Beano's strengths too. He is SO much better than anything I've seen in 10 years or so at the club, that I feel there's no way we'll be able to afford him after this season. Controversially, I don't think we should entertain signing him permanently, unless he'll play for less than 2000/week and even then that's only realistic wages if we were promoted.

Or we get to the play offs receiving a sizeable sum?!
