Never really seen what is so special about Young and he is not as good as what man u already have. If I was Ferguson I would be looking for a quality attacking cm like Modric, actually thinking on it would sign Modric as he is is one of the few players who they might be able to get who would improve their team. Certainly better than wasting money on Ashley Young.

Totally agree with that hairy, Young is very similar to Nani and Valencia. Modric would be a far better signing.

Modric won't be going anywhere for a while. Spurs have no need to sell and would be mental to consider any offers for him while he is happy. They're not far away from being a very good side.

Yeh Mordric is exactly what MU are missing but it would take a serious fee to get him out of Spurs and they don't seem to have a lot of cash.

Ok, I just did some research and while I am not saying Young is better than say Fabregas, I would certainly say he comparible to Nani and Modric in terms of assists and goals. (FYI in the last 4 seasons, Young has 32 goals and 54 assists to Fabregas's 42 and 66)
But suggestions are Fabregas is worth in the region of 30 to 35 million. Nani cost Man U 15 million when they bought him. I would suggest Redknapp wouldnt let Modric go for anything less than 25 million. So if Ferguson can get Young for around 15 million, is that good business, on comparison and statistic also possible potential, I would say YES

Yes, I would agree. He has potential and if you can get him at the right price then fair enough but I dont think he's proven or is a certainty to realise his potential so if he's silly money then it would be a non starter for me.
I doubt Villa are in any sort of position to hold out for massive money and I would guess that Houllier will be under some pressure to claw back a good chunk of the money spent on Bent.
You are buying undoubted potential with Young though as opposed to the real deal.

But buying Darren Bent for £24M then selling Ashley Young for about half that, possibly less, doesn't really make much sense to me.

They had to give spurs 6million due to a sell on. Young is also refusing to sign a new contract at villa as well

They had to give spurs 6million due to a sell on. Young is also refusing to sign a new contract at villa as well I thought Villa paid 18million which could rise to 24mil? So upfront Sunderland could only receive 12million initially? Also Young's contract expires June 2012. So with 15 months left, I would expect Villa to accept a bid of between 10 and 15 million.

There's a good chance they'll miss out on CL qualification this year though, City are pretty far in front on points and Chelsea, who are slightly closer to them, have more quality and experience. So if one of those clubs, or United or Arsenal, THEN put in a bid, surely the player would want to leave? Plus at the end of the day, Spurs have always been a selling club.

Ashley Young is a decent player, i think he tends to have a slightly better end product than Walcott/Lennon players he gets likened to, i don't think he'd be a bad signing, not as good all round as Valencia but comparable to Nani, who seems for every top goal or good thing he does he also makes some poor decisions and is a whiney little shite whenever he is tackled
Talk of Modric, i find that although theres no doubt he can be a top player he tends to drift in and out at times, would rather see United going for somebody like Wesley Sneijder as far as central midfielders/scholesy replacements go.
