Is our hatred of Swindon Town FC carried to far? Do we hate people from Swindon even if they have no interest in football ? Do we avoid people from Wiltshire at all cost? I think the answer is a definite yes.
I ask this question because of quite a funny incident that happened yesterday. I was working till 3 so couldnt go to the match, arrived in my local about 3.15,they have a live match on on saturdays so Chelsea Blackburn was on 1 TV,Racing on another and my mates were stood by the TV that was showing soccer saturday. Its a bit of a ritual that we have a footie bet and goals galore is popular,we watch the goals coming through with coupons laid on the bar. Now the vast majority are Oxford fans but are only casual attendees at games plus another 3 are on banning orders, what we all share is a hatred of Swindon. Now one of the lads dads was at the game so we got calls telling us of the equaliser and the winner before they came up on sky,so we were ready for the cheer when the score came on the screen. About ten to five with loads of final scores coming, everyones attention was on the TV waiting for the Oxford score to appear, (why when were behind is our score 1 of the first through, and when were winning 1 of the last?)When a score appeared Oxford City 2 Swindon Supermarine 1 This produced a voiciferous cheer from all and sundry, followed by much laughter when we realised we were all happy cause a team in the Zammaretto league had lost, just because they were from Swindon. So to answer my own question, probably yes. I hate Swindon town I dislke people just because they live in the town I always want Swindon Robins speedway team to lose And when i occasionally go on 606 forum to read what the sad people are talking about, i am always incensed by the poster whose moniker is OXON-RED STFC,drives me mad.
But i do have my monthly shop delivered from Wal-Mart in the town, although i never give the driver any help and make him carry it through to my kitchen,i also sign his little elctronic pad with a scribble which if anyone could decipher it ,they would see the words I HATE SWINDON. Petty really as the drivers are usually foreigners.

Basically, I find it hard to hate a lamp post just because of where it's located, or a four year old child who's unfortunate enough to have been indoctrinated into the dark side.
Hate the club itself, it's current players and management and its adult supporters (they've made their own choice), but let's not take it any further.

It's obvious you want to...

Yes I hate them, the people, the town, the football team, the bloody retail outlet and that stupid bloody swimming pool..... I think we do take it too far, I take no pride in this it is just ingrained into me, a few examples are:- I have (apart from admission to football) never spent a single penny in Wiltshire as it gives locals jobs which mean they can then pay to watch the scum, if I can I will avoid Swindon when travelling anywhere, I turn off the TV & Radio if any of their fans call a phone in. I have taught my 2 year old to say Shoot, Shoot, Shoot when he sees a Robin or picture of and when you ask him what Swindon are he says matter-of-factly "Scum" All my nephews and nieces know that they would be disowned if they ever bought a scummer home as a partner As I say I take no pride in this but I would have it no other way

My problem is that I go way back to a time when there was no rivalry between us and the Scum. I've never really understood why it started. It just seemed to grow!!!! Anyone any ideas?
I go with the flow nowadays and despise them out of habit and conformity more than anything! ;D ;D

Well, where do I start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Firstly it is good to see that I have some disciples, all of you above expressing hatred for everything and anything connected to swindon are good men and true Oxford United fans.
You will note that amongst my many anti swindon traits, I NEVER spell the word with a capital letter, I will not even grant them that privilege, as they are not worthy of it.
I will add more as the thread develops, as I'm sure it will. I have a particularly funny story regarding Thames Water.

As an antidote to all this silliness, I'm thinking of setting up a group to promote reconciliation between Oxford fans and swindon (I'll give you that, Eric) lamp posts, ornate, old-fashioned variety.
Who's with me?

As I stated earlier in the thread, I hate them - A couple of true if not pathetic examples of this When working in the Manor club we played them, a couple of their non playing players came into the bar and asked for service, I refused to serve them when they complained my wife served them - when they offered her a drink one look from me ensured she declined the offer ;D ;D At another Scum game, there was a little bit of trouble upstairs in the Manor Club, I ensured that the scummers were ejected without knowing who was at fault My wife once went shopping and bought me a t-shirt, when i received the bank statement I realised she had bought it from the great western retail place, she was duly sent back and we received a full refund - My wife was then subjected to months of lectures etc on the virtues of our money being spent in appropriate places

Andy Gray just mentioned the s word on Sky. Fortunately he followed it with "conceded 100 goals and went straight back down again" so I suppose that might be forgivable?
