I think I missed out on the Golden Era of football specials(late 60's/70's/early 80's?) but did go on a few mid 80's. The ones I recall were to Leeds,Shrewsbury and Ipswich. As far as I can remember drinking was allowed?,though on the way to Shrewsbury some Oxford supporting granny banned us from smoking in the carriage! Arriving at Leeds station I'm pretty sure the police waiting for us basically hid us and asked for quiet so as not to alert the loitering Leeds boys! I'm sure some of the slightly older chaps will have some more exciting tales! Alright L+P

didn't Mick Brown organise a lot of the specials in the late 70's to mid 80's? I seem to remember Special trains taking us to Chesterfield, Newport, Walsall, Woves, Portsmouth, Exeter, Barking, Rotherham,Shrewsbury,Notts County, Dover,Bristol City, Cardiff,Birmingham to name just a few and yes lots of beer used to be carted on at Oxford station.

Remember Mick Brown walking up the train saying "Pull down the blinds and keep you heads down" I remember the same thing happening coming in to leeds, they rolled bricks down the embankment, and we were late, oxford 1-0 up by the time we got there. Think that was an evening game. Happy days...

Yeah Sheff. Utd also Ipswich and Bournemouth. Notts County was a weird one though, the train went to London first, I remember looking out the train window and going past Wembley stadium.

Leeds was in the Milk Cup - stuck under a railway bridge in the fog when someone with a radio shouted we were 1-0 up - eventually got to the ground just in time to see us miss a penalty and drew 1-1 in the end.

When we did get in to Leeds station they had buses waiting to take us strait to the ground. Not a bad service.

pompey was always good on the train, having to wait for their fans to clear the station before they would let us on the platform, making us wait on the bridge above the platform, big mistake. also remember burnley on the train,a load of burnley fans got on the train on the way back, didnt see the trouble but there was plenty. when we were walking back to the station, not in the police escort because we got complimentary tickets in the main stand and had to make our own way back.w egot called carrot crunchers and all that but no trouble.when we got back to the staion there were some fans waiting to go onto the platform, speaking in a rather northern accent we thought it was a bit weird, then one of them said 'when the oxford fans get here start joining in with their songs and try and speak like them and we can get on the train'. the real football factory at its best. cant remember what year it was though,in the 80's,think we drew 0-0 , could have been a cup game. the specials were great though, playing cards all the way up but had a few late ones back especially leeds, sheffield and newcastle in 83 in the league cup

Think Burnley away was the FA cup possibly 1982/83 amazing now to think we took a Special train to Burney and to Newcastle for a night game.
