I'd love to see this back (not that I'm old enough to remember the original)

I guess that means we'll have a load of Jocks vandalising Wembley's goalposts again.
Having said that, bring it on! ;D

Why assume England will win. Overinflated opinion of Capello's boys.

Embarrassing is the only word for the FA. When the Carling 4 Nations Cup was planned they didn’t want to know. Suddenly after a poor World Cup, the England brand devalued, and a new sponsor (Vauxhall) they become interested.
The additional announcements of a friendly against Ghana at Wembley in March and scrapping one against Thailand (allegedly because of our failure to win 2018 bid), mean it is not clear if the plan will bring a complete end to meaningless friendlies.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it still doesn’t happen. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales would be quite within their rights to stick with the Republic of Ireland. Hopefully any sponsorship issues can be ironed out with a 5 Nations tournament, same format as the rugby, the result.

If you add the Republic then its basically starting to become a mini European Championship. Where do you stop? Rugby 6 Nations has France and Italy as well.
The idea is that this is just a small scale UK thing.

Where do you fit it in the calendar? and i'll bet the top clubs will pull their players out because it won't be recognised by EUFA or FIFA as an official International break, that will give clubs the right to refuse to release players

You'd still get a decent game on and I don't think it will be the be all and end all not to win it. Its crazy that we seem to go almost decades without playing Scotland, the rivalry means it should be one of the most awaited fixtures in football even if the gap has widened significantly in the past 30 years.

Which, in turn, would mean countries picking aspiring international players. That wouldn't be such a bad thing, it would give the youngsters a chance to stake a claim. Couldn't you just spread the tournament over the whole year playing these games instead of friendlies? Obviously there might be times when England want to play against certain opposition to prepare for a tournament, but generally it would be more useful to play these semi-competitive fixtures instead of friendlies.
