Eric. That Aston Vanilla game you mentioned. Are you referring to the home game in around 1972? Me and my mates always used to get in the London Road 45 mins before the game started. This day, when we got there, it was jam-packed with Villa fans. I mean, absolutely packed solid! Dejectedly, we marched down to the Cuckoo Lane and massed behind the goal, sadly admiring their support. All of a sudden, a 'hole' appeared in their ranks. All you could see was a few (about 50) Oxford fans having a go. For some unknown reason, the whole lot of Villa fans did the 'diahhorhea two-step' and ran on to the pitch! 50 Oxford fans shifted around 2000 cowardly brummies! What made this story even better, was that it got onto the news at ten programme that night! For months, we sang: "You're gonna get what Aston Villa got!" Sweeeeet memories!

mcf86. You mentioned Portsmouth. The very first coach I took to an away game was at Pompey, in '75. Only 35 people came on my 53 seater. When we got there, we were surrounded by half of bloody Portsmouth! Me and my bald-headed mate Bob got chased accross the pitch. It was on F**king telly, too! When they came to the Manor, they kept singing: "Where's kojak!" I got the last laugh on them though. I stood with the Pompey fans at the manor, hoping there'd be more of us. No, just me. I was so drunk, I threw up over one of their fan's back! I somehow managed to get in the Right side, where the Oxford fans were.

Might be wrong but, that may have been the same match i was thinking of - a mate got his false choppers broken and his leather jacket ripped!! There were only a few of us there as i remember. I know your name but can't put a face to it! I went to many away matches late sixties early seventies, until i got hitched!! Lived in Morris Cres Cowley and we used to walk to the Manor calling in at the University arms the Standard and of course the Britt!!

mcf86. I think you may be wrong. I went to Pompey in '72, '73' and '74. I can't remember which one it was, but I do remember seeing a small group of Utd. fans getting set upon by about 20-1. Yeah, those Pompoo tw*ts were hard, weren't they! Every time they came to the Manor, they'd only bring about 50 fans - even Scumdom did better than that! Fond memories of the Britt!

I think i was one who escaped across the pitch that day....outnumbered by a very very long way and not a copper in sight..was that when we had our striped kit and Mick Tait scored 2 screamers?

Truthteller. If you're talking about '75, you're right. The bloody coppers were there, but they just let their fans get to us. Love the man relieving himself! Actually, I think I've just remembered. I went to Pompoo in '76 when we drew 2-2. You must mean that match.

Great to have the Yellows back in the F.L. a couple of swift promotions & prise the stadium off the greedy B'stard so that the Club can really go from strength to strength. UTM.

Message to Londonroader; In the Seventies Martin had a 200cc Suzuki something or other. He gave me a lift on it once. Shee-it! He went into the back of someone's car and flew up in the air, then landed back on the bike again! That was the best poo I ever had - sadly, in my pants! Me and him went to Charlton away on my 175cc honda in August 1975. He weighed around 25 stone and me - about 17 stone. On the way home the bike's engine gave out, due to the excess weight. We had to push the b*stard 20 miles home, along the motorway/dual carriageway! As has been said about Coops, I would never have believed he would go to Australia and get married. Dave there was an old picture in the Oxford Mail recently of a coach load at Gloucester Green before going to a match, you could not miss your distinctive hair do from back in the day. ;D

Londonroader. Oh, God! my brother gave me that picture from the OM back in March! I looked like the wild man from Borneo! I used to have a 12 foot long Oxford United scarff which stretched out another three feet! I cannot believe Martin Cooper got married, let alone lose all that weight! And Plug lives in America? His name was Paul Bryson wasn't it? I live in Amersham these days, so don't often visit my old mates.

I always thought Plug had a double barrel name? What ever happened to Brendan who often used to climb into the roof of the London Road stand?

broncobullfrog. The only thing that connects Plug with the words double barrelled, would be the shot gun he would use on Swine-don fans! (Joke-ha!ha!)
