The first half at Chesterfield clearly showed that 433 doesn't really work in this league. As soon as we swap to 442 and play two up front Bingo!! Surely CW has to play 442 against Barnet, my guess is that he won't.

Erm... We didn't play 4-4-2 in the first half at Chesterfield, we played 4-1-4-1. This formation was step up to contain and counter Chesterfield and designed to easily change to 4-4-2 should it need to, without substitutions, which it did.

4-1-4-1 is just a more defensive 433. It basically still leaves one isolated striker on his own up front just like 433. I think at the end of the day the argument is whether we play with 1 or 2 strikers up front. In the first half maclean was on his own, and it just didn't work. I went last night and believe me it looked like 433.

Yes MacLean was upfront on his own... that would be the 1 in 4-1-4-1. It's a very simplistic view to assume at all formations are either 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 whatever you thought it looked like.

442 in the second half and wow did it work. We must stick to 442 in my view.

Personally think 4-3-3, should be the back up option if 4-4-2 ever goes wrong. TBH dont think we would have lost that many on the spin with 4-4-2 though. Could have one too many central midfielders now though.

Whatever system he played in the first half,it led to the same result as most games in the last few months, maclean was on his own,it didn`t work,it was changed in the second half and we could have had 3 or 4 goals, that was a blinding save from heslop !

Wilder will go back to 4-3-3.
Why anyone thinks he won't I have no idea. The fact that 4-4-2 worked for one half at chesterfield will not convince a man as stubborn as wilder to give up a system he has played for most of his time as a manager.

Did he play 443 at Halifax?

Did he play 443 at Halifax? Most managers prefer to have a goalkeeper. I think there's a good chance he'll stay with 4-4-2. He's listened to the fans a fair amount recently and this was the crucial change that won us the match. He's not stupid.

Would he have a keeper with that 442?

Unless he started with 10 men. And that would just be silly.

Hopefully he's finally realised that playing 442 is what seems to bring the best out of us, hopefully he will stick with the same team too, Beano should be made to fight to regain a starting place, Craddock and Maclean certainly should not be dropped.

I have a feeling that he will revert to 4-3-3... unfortunately.
4-4-2 seemed to work a treat in the second half at Chesterfield... but I was under the impression from some on here that we couldn't play 4-4-2 without two recognised wingers... we didn't even use one on Tuesday.

I suppose the question is whether it will work over an extended period of time. The transfer window might give us an opportunity to buy/loan a winger or two though.

Oh the irony. According to some he should have been out the door a week ago, now he's indispensable how fickle are oxford fans!!!

Voicing my opinion and saying I was wrong and Wilder was right isn't fickle? If it is than I am I suppose.

I never once said he should be dropped or out the door, read some of my other posts on here then you will see my opinion on the idiots slating him!!!! I have always backed Craddock 110% and believe him to be an excellent signing, shame others dont!!!
