The title of this thread is tounge in cheek but i wonder how many people actually would rather be a massive non league team than a league team? if Wilder goes then you will get what you want and we will go back down! Changing the manager never brings instant success. Yes Wilder has his faults and right now one is that he doesn't know his best team but that will soon come. It is only november! A lot of oxford fans claim they are the best in the country - if that is the case then they have a funny way of showing it right now. The one time we need the fans to get behind the players to give them a bit of confidence which they clearly need they get booed at half time.
Some fans really have no clue about football what so ever. i would love wilder to turn round to someone in the south stand who is shouting abuse and say ok, you are in charge for a week - training the lot! people keep asking for 4-4-2, Do you not realise that when the other team get the ball it goes into a 4-4-2 with one of the front 3 dropping in to make a 4 man midfield? i agree with playing 4-5-1 away from home but 4-3-3 should be played at home.
people also need to get over Bulman, he was not good enough for league football end of. He was too slow and payne and heslop are better - before you slate heslop just remember how good he was at the start of the season.
It is damn hard to get that first win after being a losing streak but once that win comes it will be fine! It is getting behind the team and helping them get that win.
Last point is for all the people who can't take Wilder giving some fans stick. If you are big enough to shout abuse and for a guy who has got us out of non-league football to be sacked then be big enough to take it back! If you had someone shouting abuse at you in the street would you just take it?!
Some fans (not all) need to have a long hard look at themselves and realise that football doesn't always go our way all the time and realise Oxford united is not the massive club you think we are!

Spot on Steve.
Every time a player signs they mention the fantastic support we have and while it's a bit tedious to hear it time and time again, it's true.
I wonder if the team thought the support was fantastic at half time on Saturday?...................

Sorry these statements are utter utter toss. They are equally as bad as "If we get rid of wilder we would definitely win the league". Also changing manager often brings a complete change around in fortunes. For an example look at Wilder's appointment!!!!
I'm glad your anti-fan rant is backed by such poorly thought out nonsense it makes it as easy to ignore as those wanting Wilder's head on a stick.
For your information Oxford are one of the biggest clubs in this league. We have a comparable budget whilst not the highest is well up there in the top half of the league. We also have the second highest income. I know this doesn't mean a thing in terms of promotion, but it should mean that we potentially have the resources to compete in this league.
The sad fact is this run must end soon and this run is not the fault of the fans. Changing the fans will not fix the obvious errors on the pitch. Stop making excuses for failure its up to our manager and players to take the blame and to change things.
May I also suggest that your post slagging off your fellow fans make you one of the worst fan we have.

i am not "slagging" off all oxford fans, just making a point that there are too many keyboard managers who when it comes down to it dont know what they are talking about.
Yes we do have the resources to compete in this league but some fans think we should be a championship club when in reality we are a bottom half league 1 side IMO.
You say this run needs to come to an end and you are right it does. It wont come to an end however with fans booing the players at half time and shouting at how crap they are. Some of the things at the Torquay game that were shouted were almost embarrassing with one fan moaning when we were keeping the ball and trying to pass it about and instead wanting route one football, a few route one balls get played, the ball comes back and the same fan then moans that we are not keeping hold of the ball.
Like i said before that it is damn hard to get out of a losing rut and right now the time is not right to boo the players, we need to get behind the team. i am shocked at how fans have just written off our chances tonight to even get a point!
It will do the players good to just turn round and say, we aren't making the play-offs so just go out and enjoy the game again and play football. This will ease a lot of pressure off the team and in return will bring more relaxed enjoyable football which will bring results.

Millman, you may have a point but to dismiss the posting so bluntly is wrong.
I suspect we are all pretty much on the same page in that we don't want all the hard work to be undone as none of us want conference football again but to lay the entire blame at the door of Chris Wilder is wrong.
Being great fans isn't just about turning out in numbers for home games and taking more away support than most other clubs in the league , it's about supporting the club - players, manager, chairman et al - at all times, not just the good ones.
I think our advantageous finances are somewhat compromised by our rent commitments but we are still in a position to compete and did precisely that for the first two months of the season.
I guess we have heard that last chorus ever of "Chris Wilder my Lord". How fickle people are...................

I didn't like the conference. Yes it was nice to thrash some poor teams but being back in the league is all important. We mustn't return to that tinpot conference place ever.

We need to be to our lads tonight what the Gills fans were to them on sat. It would help if we played an Oxford-esque, Audley Harrison-esque side who'll roll over rather than a rampant Chesterfield

Who says Chesterfield will be rampant?
Do you think Gravesend thought they had a hope in hell against us in our game at the end of our winning streak in the 1st year of the conf.
Did we presume we were already beaten against a "rampant" Port Vale only a few weeks ago?

Welcome to the modern game chaps. Watch nearly any game where the home side loses and boo's can be heard. Fans nowadays are fickle. Sad but true, some people feel because they have paid good money they have the right to complain. Its not for me or you but many out there are over vociferous.
However having said that even if you could get everyone to stop booing what is there to cheer currently? The team is under performing they haven't won for weeks heck they haven't even scored more than one goal in weeks. Ok so its not all their fault the manager is playing silly beggers with them in terms of formations and substitution and loans. There is a lot of worry and frustration out there and it is well placed. So far I would suggest Wilder has got off lightly.
Lastly you can't lump those who talk about changing managers here on the internet with those who boo at games. They could well be different people entirely. We darn well should be talking about Wilder and the players (although it does seem on here that many think that Wilder is more of the problem). You may not agree about this but who is to say you are right and the other are wrong. We are fast reaching a point where the decision on change could end in dire consequences for the club.

Millman this is a forum and people can only make sweeping statements about their feelings they can not go into the minutia. The feeling expressed in the original post seems reasonable to me.
The fans have been fantastic at turning up in numbers and when the going is reasonably good they get behind the team. I understand why most fans find it hard to be positive but it can not help the team to improve their confidence when most of what they hear is negative.
Gillingham fans had every reason not to get behind their team on Saturday having not won away for 30 games but they showed good support throughout and I am sure that this lifted their team.
Some of our fans are too sensitive. Wilder wears his heart on his sleeve and I prefer that to someone who does not appear to give a toss like many Manager's in the past. However, he needs to look at his own current performance before harping on about what he has done in the past. Personally I do not care if he has a swipe at some of the idiots who give him and his team grief but I know that some of our fans can give it out but can't take it. Wilder does himself no favours though by getting involved in a slanging match with these people.
On Saturday in the SSU one fan made a point of booing very loudly when the announcer said something like "lets get behind Chris Wilder and the team". It must have been audible as the players came out. How can that do anything but harm?
There is little that fans can do to influence the result but gving positive support as much as possible when things are going bad is one way that they can help. Alternatively we can all whinge moan or stay silent then we will reap what we sow.

Changing the manager never brings instant success. Yes Wilder has his faults and right now one is that he doesn't know his best team but that will soon come. It is only november! What makes you so sure he will play his best team soon? He played a team in August that demolished a League 1 team. It's taken him just over 3 months to demolish that team and get to the point where just one of the original outfield players was chosen to start in a home defeat to a team that hadn't won away in a year and a half.people keep asking for 4-4-2, Do you not realise that when the other team get the ball it goes into a 4-4-2 with one of the front 3 dropping in to make a 4 man midfield? i agree with playing 4-5-1 away from home but 4-3-3 should be played at home. It's never 4-4-2. When we defend players do drop back from the front 3, but we never have 2 central forwards at any point.people also need to get over Bulman, he was not good enough for league football end of. He was too slow and payne and heslop are better - before you slate heslop just remember how good he was at the start of the season. Disagree. Never too slow to close down tyhe opposition and was always the oxford player harrying their player with the ball and covered more ground than anyone. He was also playing better this season than he had been last. Got rid of far too early, and not replaced by anyone that could do that job half as well, but Wilder, being very stubborn, won't bring him back even if he realises he has made a mistake.Last point is for all the people who can't take Wilder giving some fans stick. If you are big enough to shout abuse and for a guy who has got us out of non-league football to be sacked then be big enough to take it back! If you had someone shouting abuse at you in the street would you just take it?! Wilder also needs to learn that he can't say history means nothing in one press conference, then when it suits him point back to his history when it makes him look better than his current performance. No problem with Wilder 'discussing' differences with individual fans at matches, but unfortunately he seems to save it for press conferences and aims his wrath at the fans in general.

Scoob this is a forum and the original poster to some extent was having a go at other posters for making just such badly thought out sweeping statements as he himself used in that post. He may have a point yet it is completely lost when his arguments are based around equally yet opposite inaccuracy's as those he sort to criticise. Therefore I stand by my harsh appraisal of the original post.

We didnt exactly boss the conference did we it took us 4 seasons to get back in the football league and even then we had to do it through the playoffs. Would rather be a shit FL club than be scrapping to get in the conference playoffs every year (and not even that one year). For all of our good starts in the conference seasons we never actually came that close to winning the title. Our fans have always had delusions of grandeur because of our massive overachievement in the eighties and most of the nineties. This has led to our fans being quite knee jerk in there reactions to a bad run, that coupled with being lumbered with some truly useless managers during the fall to the conference. We have to earn our right to be considered a decent league club back again after being in the wilderness of non-league.
