A the start of the season, Chris had assembled a good, young squad of players with desire, pace and decent technical ability for this level.
The team that beat Bristol Rovers and did so well at West Ham was added to by the excellent signing of Josh Payne.
The shipping out of Danny Bulman, whilst regrettable for many of us, made some sense to free up a wage to bring someone else in and the signing of Craddock looked good on paper and when he weighed in with those two gaols v Port Vale, it briefly looked good on grass too.
When we began our bad run, it did not look as though it needed too much to turn things around.
However, like last season, he has panicked and brought in loan players with same division experience that have added little/nothing to the team.
On yesterdays showing is Futcher better than Creighton/Worley/Franks? No and no better than Wilmott either.
Is Wotton a better defensive midfielder than Payne or Bulman? No.
Is Maclean better than Beano? Possibly but without the same desire (and would be good played alongside Beano.
So, why the panic? The need to be seen to be doing something? The inability of himself and the coaches to get the best out of the current crop, so sign some players that others have coached?
I think Clist coming back is fair and he has done ok.
What he wont do is lose face and drop the loanees, so this will not be the team at Chesterfield, but mine would be.
4-3-3 which is likely
Clarke
Batt
Worley
Wright
Kinni
Payne
Heslop
Clist
Potter
Beano
Maclean
4-4-2
Clarke

Clist

Maclean
Yep, no Craddock, but in my view, he has been consistently poor.
