Having stuttered our way through much of the season up to this point, our form had suddenly picked up and we went into this match on the back of 3 consecutive victories and having got ourselves into the final playoff position. However, Bradford City were also going strong and making a charge for the playoffs (which they would win at the end of the season). Our run was stretched to 4 wins in a row after two second half goals put Bradford to the sword, the first from a route 1 move finished off by Paul Moody, the second with more than a hint of offside about it was scored by Martin Aldridge.

It had been a difficult start to the season, but if our aim for our first season back in the second tier was simply consolidation then we could be happy with that start we had made. Bradford, who had joined us in being promoted the previous season (though they had scraped into the final playoff place) would probably have been less happy about their start, sitting one point and one place above the relegation zone. In many ways this match was an echo of the two sides' previous meeting, with neither side able to break the deadlock in the first half until Oxford were able to finish two of their chances in the second. It took a wonder strike from Nigel Jemson from outside the area to finally put Oxford in front, but after that the yellows were dominant and an especially fiery Beauchamp substitute performance tore Bradford's defence apart, with Oxford's second, scored by Moody, coming from a mazy Beauchamp run through the heart of the Bradford defence.

We travelled to relegation-threatened Bradford sitting pretty in midtable and fresh from a home victory over Reading, but it was the struggling Bradford City side who took all the points after a disappointing performance. United were 1-0 down after 14 minutes after failing to deal with a ball into the box and were dominated thereafter. Bradford had several chances to extend their lead and did so in the second half after Martin Gray failed to see the ball out, and allowing Bradford to get a ball across the empty Oxford goal area to be finished easily from close range.

A poor start to the season saw us sitting just one place above the relegation zone and in desperate need of 3 points, though our opponents Bradford were a considerably stronger prospect than the one that flirted with relegation the season before and were pushing for promotion in 4th place. However, a poor game and a poor result meant that we were able to take just the 1 point from the match and despite putting the ball in the net at one point, it was disallowed. And things could have got considerably worse down the other end after conceding a harsh penalty, but it was saved by debutant keeper Arjan van Heusden who was on loan from Port Vale. Despite being unable to win the match, some comfort could be taken from the fact that we had at least held a strong side to a draw and that our previously leaky defence had been shored up by bringing in a new goalkeeper.

An improvement in our fortunes after Christmas had fortunately seen the club pull itself out of the relegation dogfight while at the other end, the Bradford side that had been challenging for promotion earlier in the season had fallen away considerably to sit just 4 places above us in the table. It was perhaps little surprise to see that the two sides played out a repeat of the goalless draw from earlier in the season, as a Bradford side that had lost all momentum took on an Oxford side content with any away point. Both sides had their chances to win the match, though neither side had enough firepower to make any difference to the scoreline.

After a disappointing home defeat to Aldershot and then a capitulation away at Macclesfield a trip to struggling Bradford seemed the ideal match to get our form back on track. And in the first half of the match it seemed that things would go to plan, with Oxford containing Bradford fairly easily without really troubling the Bradford defence too much. However, a calamitous second half saw a previously watertight defence ship 5 goals in one of our worst defeats in years. The first was conceded just 3 minutes into the second half when the defence failed to deal with a seemingly innocuous ball launched into the box to be met by Bradford striker Omar Daley who slotted into the net. He scored again 9 minutes later as the Oxford defence backed off and backed off before allowing him to get away a shot which flew into the top corner of the goal. More poor defending cost us a penalty which was saved by Ryan Clarke but the referee inexplicably ordered that the penalty be retaken and Clarke was unable to pull off the feat twice. Creighton, already booked, was then sent off following a rash challenge, which sparked an on-pitch brawl resulting in one of Bradford's players being sent off, followed closely by Jake Wright. But the misery didn't end there, and a visibly deflated Oxford allowed Bradford to score twice more before the final whistle to result in a very, very bad day for the yellows.
