For the first post in this section, i thought id start by saying what a great job Chris Wilder is doing. He has brought stability to the club on the field, and has built a very decent squad. And Kelvin Thomas deserves great credit for what he has done for Oxford United. Anyone else think these to men deserve the freedom of the city?

I think both men have acheived great things but the real success story for me is Thomas. Can you remember a time in recent memory when you felt that the club was in the hands of a wise businessmen, with a love for the club he runs and a sensible financial head? Players will come and go, maybe even managers (though I hope not!) but as long as Thomas is at the helm, this club will only go in one direction...UP! So yes, thanks Chris and the staff for all you've done...you've got us back to where we belong and hopefully you'll take us even further...but it was acheived on the foundations that Thomas has laid.

The business turnaround under Thomas has been unbelievable in less than 2 years.
In fairness to Lenagan, he has turned Wigan around in the same period and they are now making money after suffering huge losses.
The news that the financial side of OUFC has been strengthened with help from the Finance Director at Wigan Warriers on a part time basis is really good news.

KT and indirectly IL should get credit.
The key for me though IS Wilder.
With only a few additional players when he first took over 18 months ago, he completely turned around a team heading for the BSS.
The only worry I had was his inability to replace Murray at the turn of this year, and the lack of a back up for when Beano was injured.
i do think though that we've got a very very good, young and ambitious team now.
The final factor missed out though is US!
The support for this club is brilliant and a lot of players have cited it (ok, they have to really as it's in their interests to do so) and the atmosphere we can create (without drums or vuvuzelas).

Chris Wilder also deserves a lot of credit, the best manager we've had in a long time

Chris Wilder is key for me - he has got everything sorted on the football front - and everything else falls in behind. You can only be a succesful Football Club when the Football is worth watching. The team respects him, players are really keen to join OUFC, the reputation of the club has improved due to results and the way we operate, and the fans have got their hunger back because they see the same passion coming from the top. People have faith in what we are doing and will invest in that, and KT and co seem to be very good an managing that investment. Onwards and upwards is a cert under this management.

He has brought a meticulous preparation an planning ,added to a superb knowledge of tactics to the job. All-in-all an very good manager. He is now moving into a new era for him (i.e. into the Football league) and it will be interesting to see how he copes.
Personally I think he will cope more than adequately.

Wilder must get some credit for the financial side as well. He clearly knows how to build a capable squad on a budget from managing to keep Halifax so high up in the table with no money at all.
Most managers we've had in the recent past seem to have been unable to complete their squad within the allotted budget and end up having to scrape together some cheapo signings to make up the numbers or ended up over budget but Wilder seems to be able to build a a whole squad of first team contenders.

I think Wilders big skill in terms of budgeting is being able to attract very good players without splashing the cash. I mean would CW offer Hutchinson such a lucrative deal? would he heck. Wilder is hostage to no player he can always replace, they know that and thats why they work hard and have done well under him.

There must be SOMETHING wrong with him. It's just that I can't think what! ;D Is it his need to completely fly off the handle and then after calming down realise that he has done just that? ;D

He has done a superb job. From day 1.
Last season though - he lost the plot slightly when he dropped Beast/ Midson and others and brought in Loan players.
He has learnt from this i am sure.
The signings this summer look spot on - i honestly believe that we can make 3rd place our own this season.

In a bizarre way the priod of time when the wheels fell off last season and Wilder gave some rediculous interviews and signed some hopeless players could be the best thing that happened to him and the club. Had the team carried on its pre xmas form we might have won the league or been gutted to have come second. Wilder wouldnt have had the opportunity to learn from the errors he made last year which can only be a good thing if there is a wobble this season. From the signings he has made in the summer he certainly hasnt gone down the "been there, done that, dont care anymore route" and got young hungry players with ambition and the potential to improve. A calming head can be got in on loan later if needed.

"What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger"
Last seasons events, good and bad, will provide CW with a lot of experiences to fall back on this season. There will be 'rollercoaster' moments like last year, and I trust him to make the right choices.

Hit the roof by all accounts after Ox City match....it's almost as if (by default) a good performance is just around the corner after a disappointing one.
