Dear Steven,
I would like to express how much I have enjoyed watching you in a Yellow Shirt and how much thousands of Oxford fans want you to stay for the rest of the season. You are Scottish - but we can work around that.
I have watched many great Oxford players over the years, some of which were in your league at least if I'm being honest, but I have also seen some donkeys who would not be fit to clean your boots. I want to see players of your calibre play for us, and as a club we have much to offer. Under this new management we are capable of climbing the leagues, but on the playing front we need a catalyst. A catalyst who offers real quality and know how on the training park as well as on Saturday afternoon. The players quite obviously look up to you and will learn alot under your guidance.
I don't suppose you have a mansion like the David Beckham's of this world but I would be surprised if you are short of a bob or two. Would you sign for us please. You could have a go on my wife if you like - she is smoking to be honest.
If you wanna chat about it over a few jars then just let us know stevey boy. OUFC is the place to be. Argyle can't help you now.
That should do it.

Done deal, Yellow G will your wife get an acknowledgement in the programme? Will the whole event, or at least the edited highlights on The Football League show?

Convinced he is coming back, not just because of the point I made in the "Cole not in Thame squad" thread but also because Plymouth have not mentioned his return at all. Rory Fallon went back yesterday after his spell at Ipswich and not only did they do a news story about it but Peter Reid said he would be meeting up with the squad and may take part in their game at MK Dons tomorrow night. Yet there has not been a single word about Maclean's loan ending, let alone any possible involvement of his in the MK game.
He's going somewhere and I think it's here.

Meanwhile, Argyle striker Steve MacLean has completed the second month of his loan spell at League Two club Oxford United. Oxford have agreed a deal with Argyle to keep MacLean on loan until the end of the season.
But the 28-year-old wants to resolve some contractual issues with the Pilgrims before deciding whether to stay with the U's.
MacLean and his agent were at Home Park yesterday and they had talks with Argyle's football consultant Peter Ridsdale.
The striker, who cost Argyle a club record transfer fee of £500,000 when he was signed from Cardiff City in January 2008, will be out of contract at the end of the season.
It is possible the Pilgrims could agree to pay up MacLean now and finally bring to an end his unsuccessful stint with them.
Isn't there a rule that if you don't offer a player a new contract when there is less than 6 months to go on their existing one, they are free to look around?

You're free to look around but you still need to stick around to the end. If I was to take a guess, I'd say he just wants the money owed to him by Plymouth and would prefer the wages we pay to go directly to him rather than by way of the club.
Re the last paragraph, I'm not convinced that Plymouth would pay him up now, I doubt they are in a position to. If you're a struggling business, its cash flow that kills, you pay the absolute minimum you can on everything, you certainly don't go handing over wods of cash when you don't need to (even if it is in your long term interest).

Depends if he stays to the end of season he might cost them £100k in wages, therefore if they both agree that they just pay him £50k and he is free to get a new club then they would do it. He'd then get a new club and earn about £80k for the remaining 20 weeks of the season. £130k in his pocket, good business for both parties.

I reckon the best he (and us if we want to sign him) could hope for is he gets half his contract payed up and terminated. Then he could sign for us for half the money he was on then he doesn't lose out and we sign a good player on reasonable money.

It depends on how bad Plymouth's plight is, but if its true that players arent being paid then i'd guess it's pretty bad.

Anyone know when Steve Maclean was last payed his wages by Plymouth?? Hopefully the "few things" he has said in interviews he just needs to sort out with them before agreeing to any possible transfer or loan deal is just getting his wages he is owed, then he hopefully will be back.

Just been on Plymouth website, and agree with the point that's been made already about them not mentioning his loan ending and him returning to the club. Surely if he was staying around then they would have mentioned his return on their site.
Hopefully a good sign that he is on his way to us..

A loan deal between the clubs has already been agreed: What MacLean has to sort out would be personal be that wages or whatever.

That would be very negative, I can see our two teams passing each other come the end of the season. Either that or they will be on our fixture list !!
