In a strange way the current full backs could learn something from Sandwith, because if they were happy to take the odd booking by hacking someone down 40/50 yards out rather than letting them run to the edge of the box, we'd have probably saved ourselves ten goals this season.

As people have mentioned on here already, all things must be considered (ie contract length, time spent here and so on) to gage was is a bad signing and someone who didn't have a chance (like Fowler - recovering alcoholic). Here goes:
1. Jamie Cook - Luton goal aside, he was a waste of money. Slow and complacent. Summed up that type of footballer who is content with the BSP and doesn't want to go any further like Daryl Clare, Andy Burgess, Chris Senior and so on; 2. Franny Green - Like Futcher, you could tell he came from a football team that don't know how to play football in Lincoln City. Seemed void of talent and is rather disliked at Brackley now from what I've heard. Funny that; 3. John Grant - Hardly started life at the U's positively when he said he would consider retiring if things didn't work out here! Well, snce he's up at Barrow now, I guess he considered his time here as a success. No fan would though. Just didn't live up to the potential; 4. Marcus Kelly - Long contract, minimal appearances. This place, as baldy suggests, was a stage too far for him; 5. Mitchell Cole - As above. He'll be back to the BSP before long. A gamble that hasn't paid off sadly.
Dishonourable mentions in the 'not here for long enough, but looked poor from what we saw of them' category: Alex Rhodes, Danny Philiskirk, Richard Baker, Lewis Chalmers, Shane Killock.

Most of those mentioned are not good. But how about his best signings?

Well that's 10 names out of the 50 already. Not such a good record if you look at it that way. Unless, of course, the good more than outweighs the bad? Every manager makes bad signings. The good thing about wilder is he rarely gets stuck with them... which can't be said for our last few managers! The players he knows are good he signs and the players he wants to try out first come on loan. Think back to some of the greats signed by every manager Kassam ever appointed (Perhaps not Atkins but I hated football under him - If you can call it that!) and I think he has a great record

Glad to see Sappleton hasn't made too many lists
Granted he was, by and large awful BUT he basically single handedly won us that grudge rematch against Salisbury during Wilder's early days in charge
In all our time in the Conference that was one of my favourite wins. Nasty, unpleasant, vile team. Crowing about beating us, crowing about breaking Sam Deering's leg, crowing about coming to our place, parking the bus from the first minute and looking like they were getting a draw
For all his pathetic subsequent displays, I will always remember the strength and composure Sappleton showed to power his way through and calmly roll it past the keeper.
In my opinion if people are exempting Jamie Cook from the 'worst signings' list solely on the basis of his goal against Luton, I'm giving Sappleton the same immunity!
Franny Green, Lewis Chalmers, Marcus Kelly, Ben Futcher (yes, I'm including him. I didn't rate him at all, and, whilst Creighton may not have been what we needed to push ourselves forward in this league, how Futcher was deemed a better option is behind me) and...one of the nameless faceless guys that we signed but never played (Cain, Fowler etc)

Very harsh on Danny Philliskirk including him on the list considering he only played something like 8 mins for the 1st team at Burton start of season, and was only on loan for a month!!!
Also harsh including Chalmers, who is a decent league 2 midfielder.
Jamie Cook certainly shouldn't be on the list. simply for scoring THAT goal against Luton! ;D he may have been rubbish other than that, but that goal keeps him off the list.

Bit p*ssed that wilder worst signings has more posts than his top signings, maybe that's the attitude of most of our fans unfortunatly, but how many of u would have put wright in that this time last year? If his signings were that bad would we be a few points off the play offs in league two? I don't think so

Like I said, OxYellow, I've taken all things into account. Philliskirk wouldn't be in my top 5 worst signings, but any player arriving from Chelsea, the Premier League champions, should be up to playing at League 2 standard. He wasn't as evidenced by his minutes on the pitch and he was promptly sent back. A disappointment indeed. Chalmers again was a disappointment. He wasn't any better than what he had in midfield and to excuse him from all lists 'cos he's quite good now' at Macc Town, doesn't suddenly make his time here at Oxford as good either. Jamie Cook only gets special praise from some due to the Luton goal and the fact that he's a local lad. Had he been from some non-de-script northern town, he would have been chastised even more so. Waste of money and provided so little when he promised so much.
