Constable won't be leaving, especially not to join them. He is 100% commited to us, you can tell that from reading his interviews and listening to him speak about the club. To get him away from here it would take a huge bid, and Swindon won't be able to fund it unless Austin does leave.

Money talks.
If we could clear £200 - £250k we would be mad to turn it down. That is a hell of a lot of money for a club like us.
I love Beano for his "110%" committment but lets face it - he is profligate in the extreme - he is always offside - his disciplinary record is not great.

This lad wouldn't be a bad replacement until the end of the season if Constable went anywhere: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jérémie_AliadièreIn talks with Yeovil apparently. Saw him on Soccer AM a few months ago and he said he would play for any team in the Football League in order to prove himself and get his fitness back.

I take it that this is a joke! £250k for one of our most prolific scorers ever who is still scoring at a similar rate to previous seasons. If he moves up he will be a League One player. What would the equivalent cost us when we are up there in the next couple of seasons. If he is sold for that amount then it will be a very short sighted move by club and player.

Hasn't Kenny Miller - Glasgow Ranger's lead scorer - just joined Birmingham for £700k? £250k is still a large amount for a L2 player.

Plus, he's 31 (maybe even 32), Constable is 26 (I think). Rangers are f**ked financially, as with all Scottish football clubs, and will probably collapse without money. Oxford are financially stable, with a high attendance and a relatively small squad. Kenny Miller is a bit of a journeyman as well, whereas Constable has made it clear that he wants to stay with the club (and for that reason alone he wouldn't join Sw*ndon, of all clubs). Even if the club accepted a bid, Constable would turn down the contract offer (and I don't believe they'd accept the bid).

As we have given away free of charge players like Bulman, Creighton & Day I would think the club would take £200k-250k for Constable. Having said that, maybe they would prefer Maclean as he would cost them nothing.
If It was a choice between keeping Maclean or Beano then what would you do.

No. He's set to leave for Italy for a good deal more. . Yeh, just been reading more on this. He turned Birmingham down. Marseilles or Bursaspor are front runners for him, but no transfer amount mentioned. I'm sure someone on here will have a wild guess though.

Goals are more important than deft little bits of fancy skill.

Anyone know what our finances are projected to be like for 2010? Or have they been released? Can we afford not to turn down that amount of money, say 300k?

At fans forum, at start of season, it was said we made profit of just 8k for 2010. But that was before Wembley money etc. We're expecting to make a profit of £250,000+ for this year. But we're still £4million in debt.

I'm pretty sure he's our assist leader this season, although that's a guess, not concrete. And we're currently projected a profit, presumably. Of course we could afford to turn £300k down for him. We're one of the few football clubs around that aren't struggling financially. Edit: Just seen rollsy's post. The debt is worrying, but clearly not that pressing (I thought it was less than that, but hey ho), otherwise there's no way we'd have brought in players from league one on any kind of deal. £300k isn't exactly going a long way towards clearing that debt.

But we are in a big debt.... Is that you saying you think we should sell him, or are you just trying to provoke debate? We are in big debt, but we're making a profit and therefore don't have to be in any rush to clear it. Particularly if we end up scraping a playoff spot. I'd imagine the majority of football league teams at the moment are in reasonable debt, but it's a minority of clubs that sell off their strikers for what is a meagre sum considering Beano's almost guaranteed status as future legend.

IMO if the price is right we should sell... That goes for all the squad...

if the money is right hes gone! as junior says ,,everyone in the squad is for sale! You seem to have taken a step back. Do you think Oxford have sold him already then, or do you just think they would given the chance? P.S. The right money is more than £200-300k.

i think hes gone! i also think midsons gone aswell! in brodie (it was us who put a bid in i think .just aguess .) and mclean. You are so strange sometimes. Pretty sure Midson's here to stay for a while too. Yes, it's just an opinion, but Constable's not going anywhere. This rumour is only going round again because he's been on the bench for two games, but he replaced Midson in the last one and he'll be starting in his place next week. It would take an absolutely outrageous offer to take Beano off our hands right now, and he would never want to play for Swindon. I'd be very surprised if he left within the next 3 years, quite frankly. He loves this club and wants to stay here, we aren't in financial trouble, we can afford to keep him, we want to keep him and he wants to stay. Problem solved. The rumours are going around again because of the January window, and from what figures you want for him you would be shock at some of the figures quoted for him. We are in debt, we are struggling financially, the reason why certain players in our squad are being looked at is our financial position, we wouldn't entertain any bids if A, we wanted the player B, we didn't need the money. Things can change and certain anonymous fans might chip in to help out with players, but they might not so nothing is set in stone.

no i hope clarkey that he doesnt go! but why dont the club come out and say so? the truth is he might go, or he might not! Beano is still the best forwad we have ,so if any clubs are looking at our players then its a good chance they are looking at him.
