What does everyone think of this ongoing war between the BBC protecting Stig's identity and the publishers of his book?
Personally I think the Stig is a great character but the poor guy should be allowed to show himself for all the work he has done on the show. There have been rumours as to who his identity is and the BBC are taking his role too seriously at the fear Top Gear might suddenly become unpopular.
The lawsuit is a bit of a joke in terms of how this innocent contributor has to maintain complete silence over partly what he does for a living. It's not as if he is goldust or something.

Honestly? I think it is the most mind numbingly boring thing I've ever heard. What's the betting it will all be resolved in time for the christmas rush and it will become the number one bestseller? Couldn't fail really could it while there are people like yourself lapping up (and adding to) the free publicity.

The Stig is a great character, but as soon as his identity is revealed, then the character is surely dead.

I have wondered in the past whether it is actually one person

The BBC would lose too much money from "Stig" merchandise like those awful "I am the Stig" t-shirts that fat chavs like.

They killed off the last one when he revealed who he was (black suit stig drove off the end of an aircraft carrier).

I really don't understand why anyone is interested who it is. Any number of racing drivers could do what he does. The whole mysterious aura surrounding him is purely down to the writers of the programme, not whoever is actually the driver.

His identity has been revealled, thats the point isn't it?
Sure I saw something in the Telegraph on Saturday, he's some ex Formula 3 driver or something.
So it's all a bit after the horse has bolted...
May have that wrong though

Some say he's an ex formula 3 driver Looks like you're right. It's formula 3 driver Ben Collins. BBC have lost their High court battle. But I don't see what the problem is as it's happened before. Just do what they did last time, and hire another 'Stig'. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11151777

Its fairly simple for the BBC though isn't it. They just get another 'cousin' of the stig to come along, or even a female stig (wearing a pink suit) and make sure they write into the contract that their identity can never be revealed.
All of this is irrelvant anyway. Top gear is a program made by morons for morons. Anyone who actually cares wheter the stig's identity remains secret or not needs to re-asses their priorities IMO.

no, i dont watch it, just feel it a bit short of you to put that out there and not give a reason. Its just an opinion. Its the kind of idiotic stunts they perform, the stupid, faux jingoistic bigoted and facile gags, and the fawning co presenters circle jerking over the arch moron clarkson which are the main things. They lead me to believe that the show is being made by people who think this kind of thing is normal, funny or acceptable, for a market of people who, they must assume, think likewise. And all the evidence suggests they are correct in their summing up of the audience as the show is watched by a great number of people. If i was to condense this analysis of both the makers of the show and its audience, i would choose the world moron.
