To add to what was originally said, I think the level of debate, and maybe even the intellect level has dropped dramatically in the past 4 to 5 years of this forum. There aren't many alternative views, and everything is very black and white with this. You can reel off names of posters that would be able to reason and talk openly about all things Oxford United, and indeed, the world in general. There was insight, and the construction of posts was easier to follow and understand the point. The days of FMO, Fat Andy, Methven, even that nutjob GoldamingYellow, Kempy, Boris, Bread Pudding.... They are long gone, and the replacements ('Beav' and Gavin Archery).... Well, an embarressment to call them replacements. Maybe the best way to look at this is that the forum is like a capitalist market? For the boom times, the level of debate is high, the threads are interesting and plentiful. Maybe this forum is in a recession, hence the 2 posters listed above being so prominent? Anyway, interesting and insightful threads will get people posting, and not having an opinion deemed wrong and/or clueless immediately after will not help. Hmmm.... Maybe that is it, Rene Descartes and isolation....? Everyone believes themselves to be right, and that is the end of it, as they sit alone at their keyboard....? I miss Monsieur Clichè.

I can't say I found that multi particularly funny. The execution was good, but I found it fast became a "Friendly Boris", stale and ran out of ideas quickly. Some good one-liners though.
Another thought, maybe it's because alot of users don't post as though they have a personality.... I couldn't tell you a thing about most of the posters here because they are simply writing one line replies with little thought or thinking on the effects/bigger picture of the situation. However, with posters gone by, they were upfront, and you knew where they were coming from. Example being Ricky Otto (Sure he won't mind). Used to go to games with a group of regular TiU posters, travelled the Southern Hemisphere, works/ed for an extremely large company, Warwick University graduate.... Likes a joke, but knows clearly in his head what he wants and how to say it.
Now take someone like DaBigFella. One line answers. Little of original quality to say, adds little to debates, can't honestly remember anything engaging during his 11,000+ posts over the two formats.
Just a thought like....

I Think the change in the teams fortunes has definatly had something to do with it. When we were in "Mad March" last year, it suddenly seemed to be much busier again. It's probably something to do with when the teams doing badly, some people think change is needed which leads to debate over whether or not it is. When the teams doing well, all people can really do is agree that they're doing well, whilst people who suggest improvements that could be made are labelled negative. Since the creation of TiU this is the most successful period we've had... I do agree that this forum is missing something though. The design of it seems a little amateurish compared to the old TiU, but I know that can't be helped, and credit to everyone who has kept it going. The posters aren't as good, many are still missing or don't post, and some have gone downhill IMO. Yellowhoods for example, on the old forum I used to find you hilarious and were, imo, the best poster on there (Funniest at least). Now you just seem so serious, perhaps even negative on everything, no offence meant like. I have found myself posting much less than I used to. And I have been going to less games this season to, mainly due to work commitments and my studies. Won't be getting a season ticket next season either for the first time in about 6 years....sad times

Just saying I used to find your occasional "whooshes" pretty funny, nothing wrong with being serious. Think this forums lost some character, that's all.

Some of you folks think the forum lacks, or has lost, character. May be true.
What do you think is necessary to get it up to a decent standard? What is missing? What is there too much of? No don't answer that last one, can't do anything about those people.

No don't answer that last one, can't do anything about those people. There are too many people that think they have some kind of power due to their post count or forum status. Too many "yoof" that use it like its some sort of Bebo/Facebook/Twitter type thing. As an aside I have started visiting Welford Road on a fairly regular basis. Some cracking games, good atmosphere and you can drink in your seats. Never thought egg chasing would appeal but I guess it fits with my pipe & slippers! ;D

Some of you folks think the forum lacks, or has lost, character. May be true. What do you think is necessary to get it up to a decent standard? What is missing? What is there too much of? No don't answer that last one, can't do anything about those people. I'll try to answer this without getting TOO personal, Malcolm, but it might be difficult. Trouble is, whatever critique you put forward people will respond with "I'm entitled to my opinion" or "who made you a censor?" We've heard it all before. To start with I think it's unarguable that there is a problem. How else can you explain the changed posting habits of so many TiU regulars, who have all joined Yellows but just don't contribute as often, if at all? I'm talking about interesting people who know how to get debate going, such as Londonroader, Charlie, Eric, Myles, Leicester Yellow, Pogue, Yarnton to name but a few. Unlike Mr Essex, I don't think it's so much about those who DO post as those who DON'T. There are plenty of people on here who, I suspect, I would have little in common with if I met them and can be incredibly annoying. But they're not the problem. Baldy's good value, Moobs is potentially bi-polar but incredibly resilient, Gavin is boring but harmless, Beav is just young, Danny C daft as a brush but entertaining in his casual, ill-informed racism, TT holds truly awful views but is at least consistent. What we lack are long-lasting QUALITY threads with big followings. The Cuddy thread is a good example. The subject matter might offend some, but I find memories flooding back. The club ownership thread is another. Of course we need the bread and butter stuff too (match reports, predictions, new player comment etc), but these tend to attract quickfire responses and have no longevity. There's nothing wrong with people falling out - it's almost a requirement on a football forum - but to the occasional, casual visitor to the forum that's often all they see. Along with "word association" and "what's your favourite colour for a sheep", of course. No wonder many look, shake their heads and don't bother contributing (and I know several ex-posters like this). I'm not sure what the next mega-thread will be, but it's sorely needed. Just for good order, you, yourself, used to be great fun, but have descended into a moaning old minnie, whereas before you could annihilate pisstakers from other teams, now you complain behind their backs. I am getting bored myself with the forum. I am here because of OUFC, but whilst here, need something else other than OUFC information, so post more in the other sections. It's no good blaming those that do post for the absence of those they want to be posting. In my experience a forum changes over time and you have to get out of it what you can. I wish you were more like the MKYellow of the old TiU :-(

I agree with most of you, this forum is far from similar to the original TiU, how many years did it take for that place to become the most popular OUFC forum? characters were formed and watched.
NOTHING will ever replace the original TiU, which got killed by the Oxford Mail and i am not planning for this to compete with it as we all know it just isnt the same, but what do we do?
Not post at all?
I for one wouldn't want this forum to close, it has potential and still offers a bit of banter and a chance to comment on the club. Who knows, maybe if we just keep posting etc a part of TiU may return...... Until then, there it nothing we can do.
Keep posting, as often and as little as you want.

I can't profess to being much of an interesting poster, but I have found little to get fired up about on here. Mind you that was also the case for the last year or so on TiU. When we were in the shit, there was stuff to argue about, but now there isn't (even if there is plenty to worry about long term which is well-highlighted on one or two threads ... Ian Lenagan and oxvox).
I could probably liven it up by fishing for replies on old issues, like where I vowed never ever to reply to a post by Godalming Yellow (which I think I have stuck to), or wondering why John Lennon criticises people for not giving up their Christmas holiday time to make statements when he's happy to condone sticking their face up on a dart board in a pub when they do.
Thinking about it, maybe I've generally stopped posting while drunk ... encouraging posting while drunk might wake things up a bit ... as long as we have affable drunks here.
Fat Andy is definitely a sad loss, and Tony W has disappeared (on an Ashes binge???). Snake's good value although he gives the impression of someone permanently sitting on a carpet pin. L&P has settled into higher exposure in the new regime and FMO and Otto post or link to make me smile.
Sorry for not mentioning the likes of YH, scoob, HKY and others who keep things ticking along, but I'm trying to provoke something from the absent decent posters.
Where were you when we were shit? That was a year or more ago. All of those folks can document where they were.
Where were you when we were not quite so shit? Not such an interesting question.

I started off posting for the sake of it. With the intention of increasing my post rank and giving more for some to reply to.
That was stupid.
This forum isn't as good as the previous for entertainment/controversy or whatever you want to call it.
YH brings up 'issues' I mainly agree with but part of me thinks he just wants an argument to break out or something to really go at.
Don't worry though, i'll be posting less and less.

All good things come to an end. Not that these last six months of me posting have been good, nor are my posts coming to an end. Just woke up yesterday, realised I'd been on here too much and had an argument with YH and realised there is more to life, so will post less.
