Pleased for their fans, not so much their manager obviously. Wished I'd lumped on this heavier now. Still, got a princely 7 quid return.

This underlines, yet again, what a top class manager Evans is. I've often said that he would be first on my list for a managers job here if Wilder moved on. People have to move on from the fraudulent stuff at Boston, he's paid the penalty and its time all that was put to bed.
What is undeniable is that Evans can build a football team and play the game exactly the right way. Few clubs epitomise how I like to see the game played better than Crawley. They play extremely high tempo, pressure the opposition, attack down the flanks and pile bodies into the box.
People can say he's got the cash backing and, yes, he has and his team would rightly be expected to be up there in the league but he's had three games against League 1 and championship opposition and outplayed them each time - thats no coincidence.
A mate of mine - Swindon fan - claimed Crawley were the best team to visit the County Ground this season. Thats some claim when you consider some of the clubs at league 1 level and he's not missed a game all season.
I like listening to Evans too. He's a bit full of himself but talks passionately and honestley and I'd guess he is the sort who makes a player feel 10' tall on that pitch.
Like him or loathe him as a person you have to admire Steve Evans football manager.

He is everything that's wrong about being a football manager.

He is everything that's wrong about being a football manager. What a truly pathetic stance. What would your reaction be if George Graham got the job or that other dodgy dealer with tax issues - Harry Redknapp. Or, god forbid, we gave Cloughie the job when he was alive ? Results are everything for a football club. Why didn't you stop watching the club when Graham Rix got the job ? Or do you consider a paedophile slightly mopre palatable than tax evasion ?

Add to that Jamie Guy, and in about a year or two we will be welcoming back someone who killed someone through dangerous driving.
Baldy is right, it's time to move on. Whatever you say about Steve Evans, one thing you cannot take away from him is that he gets the job done.
If it's that or 'a good honest bloke'/former Oxford legend who quite simply up to the task, I'd take Evans any time.

Thing is these clubs raise their game and play above themselves. I bet if you went to watch them play Histon or Bath next week they wouldn't be half as good.

Berliner is right.evans is a liar and a cheat-and the difference between him and rix or adam chapman is that his crimes were football related-his "success" at Boston was based on lawbreaking and deception-I'm unsurprised that baldy thinks that's admirable-I think it stinks and I wouldn't want my club to condone it.

George Graham ? His back handers were football related and he went on to manage Leeds and Spurs. Would you trust George Graham any more than you would Evans, and if so on what basis. Would you, hand on heart, really say that Harry Redknapp has done everything above board since he's been involved in football ? Evans got caught, alot would not have.

I just don't get how anyone could say what Berliner said but then attend games when a paedophile is the manager.
If I had to go out and have a drink tonight with a bloke who fiddled the Inland Revenue for a few quid or one who fiddled about with my under age daughter I have no doubt whatsoever which it would be.

I'd still follow Oxford United if Peter Sutcliffe was the manager, Ian Huntley his assistant and Rose West the masseur. I just dont get what Berliner is saying that he would end his support if Steve Evans was appointed. That to me is most definitely NOT a true supporter of the football club. You might detest individuals within the club but the name Oxford United over rides everything.

Say what you want about paedophiles... they are very safe drivers, they always slow down when they drive past a school

Steve Evans epitomises everything that we despise. he is a crook and a cheat and what is more his foul mouthed language all through a game is not what many of us want to see. That apart a lot of you are right he brings success to football clubs

You might detest individuals within the club but the name Oxford United over rides everything. Exactly...the name of Oxford United overrides everything, and I expect the manager, players, chairman and fans to take the club and make all parties proud to wear the yellow (and blue) jersey without bringing about shame. I didn't like Rix either, to be honest, but that was more about his mind-bending ineptitude as a manager than what he did off-field. In everything Steve Evans does, he leaves a big, fat slimy trace over everything. Why not get Kassam back while we are at it, I'm sure they would be made for each other. Or is your attitude "He may be a cheating fraudster, but he's OUR cheating fraudster"?
